Default Tree vs. 928 - another attempt at my shark's life

Woke up yesterday to see one of our 100+ old trees lost a limb that was itself the size of a regular tree....about 16" thick of lumber...

It fell from about 40' in the air and landed on the garage roof, a drop of about 20' or so.

It managed to poke several holes in the garage and break 5 rafters

My shark had some small debris on it, but nothing damaged it.

I hate to think about what would have happened if that roof gave way! A special thanks goes out to fellow 928 owners Stan ('84 euro) and Dennis "sueden" (Weissach) for coming over to help. Stan climbed up on the roof with me to patch a tarp over the holes until we get the mess fixed this week. My shark is now sleeping on the street under a cover for the next few days.

It's a shame that timing belt failure could never be blamed on tree damage.

Note: This is an attempt at humor. I am in no way encouraging inurance fraud.

Close call - and lucky Shark!
Hopefully, if the wall can be supported vertical, the roof can be jacked to allow new lengths of rafters to be bolted to the 'good' sections of the damaged ones: then, on with the engine work !

Dave:

Holy crap. Don't look at it as everything is going against you. I'd say nature, God, Voodoo queens, are all pulling for you. Sure you had a timing belt failure, but now you're going to re-build it into a beutiful piece of art. I've seen your garage, it's not the best for working on cars. Now you should be able to get an insurance adjustment to rebuild the garage into a palace (similar to Sueden). Just don't forget to build it an extra couple of feet high for the lift! Rock on dude!

I'd cut the rest of that tree down.
