Default Clutch Feel

Drove the car to work today and noticed that the clutch (in the first few inches of movement) is very light (not doing anything), past that it feels normal. And the friction point is almost at the floor. Once the car warms up the pedal feels fine through the entire motion and the friction point comes a few inches off of the floor. So does the clutch need a bleed, I assume? Maybe a new clutch master? How can i tell? What do I look for?

Bleed it first, play it by ear after that. Make sure you get all the air out - search archives for many threads on this.

Look for a leak in the clutch master. Peel back the carpet and firewall covering where the clutch rod enters the firewall and look for fluid. Sounds like you have air in the master somehow......And it does not get in there by itself.

The car was sitting for the last five or so years. I don't see any leaks or fluid. I'm just gonna bleed the clutch and see what happens.

Simplest check is to look at the adjusting rod. Adjusting the rod can mask other problems so care may be needed. Note that the adjustment guideline was changed, for all cars, from a tiny gap to a tiny bit of preload. Tightened to just where there is no slop is fine.

I recently bought a 944 that had the pedal near the floor. The owner's dad told me it was a "racing clutch." Those things are hard to work on so I reached in blind and found that the lock nut was loose. Twisted the rod until it was snug and lock it there. Works like a champ.

When I got the car I changed brake fluid, coolant, oil. Everything but the Steering fluid. All hoses look good and feel good. I'm going to attempt my first TB/WP this winter, I have all of the parts except the WP so far. I'll check the fittings and such this weekend. Thanks for the help all.
