Hacker so about $2,000 per year or $10,000 plus the engine now needs rebuilt for only 25,000 miles . You are correct that is not inexpensive motoring.

Jim,
My 944 is no lemon either - close to mint except a few chips from road debrit on the front spoiler. I got the car with full records after 50,000 miles. Never seen cold weather, all Porsche dealers, all scheculed service etc.....
Cam chain broke - destroyed my cams (valve's were ok) I think that bill was over $4,500
Clutch was over $2,000
I probably should not count the turbo brake upgrades at $1,000 - take that off the top.
then you have the "little" stuff that added up to the other $3,000 - CV joints, water pumps (yes plural) shift lever, AC, list goes on.
I agree 928's can be more expensive to fix than 944's - not always. Even if you have a good one.

Keep with the 944 mate, a 928 is a complicated machine requiring either deep pockets or a very good mechanical knowledge to keep it on the road. spend your money on booze and women and waste the rest!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude at that price sell sell sell sell and ask questions later. 944n/a .... '86 .... 230k km ... worth maybe 3500US ..... even loaded .... SELL. I want to change my vote since I hadn't read and hadn't realised you were getting so much. For that money you can buy a car that is twice as fast and twice as quick. At 15 though I am sure you cannot afford the maintenance, but take the money and run. Go buy a 951 or something .....

The cheapest 951 around here is 15,000 all the porsche 944's are selling for 6000 to 10000 and the 928's are over 20,000 but the one I spoted I am going to keep the 944 and insurence is 1800 a year canadian for ether the 944 or the 928 I have I good job right now 20 buck an hour but hard labor. My end decision is to keep the 944 cuz the 928 is kinda ugly I think. Thanks for all the advise

My 944S was/IS a nightmare. Slipped T-belt, bla bla bla, you name it. Huge dolla bills. I also got this car when I was 16. IMHO, much more suited to my driving ability. 288hp is just too much at that age.
The 928 has been pretty good, except I just found out I have to replace both A-arm! Ugh!
Back to being poor...

Take the $7k for the NA, then hold out for a nice 951. Your too young for a 928. Trust me, I've had both (more than 1 of each) and a 951 is more fun in everyday driving conditions and, in my cases anyway, the 951 is less maintenance intensive. Plus the performance upside on a turbo is BIG!
