Default Update + Question

Since the last time I posted, school and work have slowed progress a little. To refresh, I bought some socket allen keys that had the ball end, and the 6mm broke off inside the last bolt on the driver's side cam cover. I went out and got the cordless dremel and a right angle attachment. It is a great tool, I recommend it for all. Anyways, I wanted to grind the head off the bolt, but the grinding bits do not reach to the head, as it is recessed inside the cam cover. The only bit that reaches is a drill/cutting bit, so I used that. The bit, normally silver, started turning blue at the tip after some drilling. I asked at Home Depot and checked the dremel site, and there is no bit extender. I was thinking about cutting off the shaft from another bit, one which I have two of, and using that piece to go inside the dremel collet, so it gives it a little more length. Other than that, I think I'm just gonna have to use the cutting bit to remove the bolt head piece by piece. Any ideas? Keep in mind that I am doing this with the block in the car. Thanks!!!

This should go in one of the "read me first" threads... never put excessive torque on a ball driver. It's extremely hard material and very hard to get out when it gets wedged. I think the chain saw sharpener bits are longer than the others... try one of those. You might be able to grind that piece out and still use a hex key. It might be a good idea to insert a piece of pipe or tubing into the recess in the cam cover so that if/when the bit skips around it won't gouge up the cover.

Thanks Dave, I'll try that.I checked out the dremel site, and it gives the diameter, but not the length. I'll check it out for myself.
