2-day airpirt auto-X Cumberland, MD Oct 30, 31
We are having our annual “Pumpkin Carve” 2-day airport autocross in Cumberland, MD on Saturday October 30 and Sunday October 31. We design “third-gear” courses which are not typically found on shopping center parking lots. We also have a Saturday night picnic at a local Corvette collector’s farm where he has his collection of 30+ vintage Corvettes on display.
I run my 928 there and sometimes there's one other one as well. Lot's of other P-cars compete at our events.
Details and downloadable entry form located here: Natioan Road Rally Website
Cumberland is located about 2 hrs. west of the Baltimore and DC areas. If you are attending Frenzy 8, consider slipping away for a couple of hours to run with us. We will be running all day both days and if you pre-register and I know your day and arrival time, I’ll get you in a run group so you won’t have to wait around.
Even if you have no interest in coming, please look through our website. Cumberland hosted SCCA races in the in the 50’s to early 70’s. There are a ton of pics posted from back in the day as well as what we are doing now.
Thanks,

So for a 928, this would be a "second gear" course?
These are really fun! I have done a couple different airports' AXs, one of which had a really fast section, but I honestly can't remember if 3rd gear was really required. (Didn't Sammy Hagar have a 928 when he sang about "never even getting out of second gear?")
No trickery like putting a hairpins at the end of the straights?
How many of these 3rd gear events do you have a year?
Thanks!

Sammy was driving a Ferrari in the video. Sammy is a known affecciando of Italian autos.
(but i have no clue if he ever owned a 928)

'Twas a rumor I heard about a decade ago. The context of the rumor was along the lines of somebody citing (acurrately or inaccurately) an interview with Mr Hagar where he discussed the inspiration behind the tune. Could have gotten the numbers mixed up, 308, 928?
At the time I had thought it entirely reasonable as:
1) Not too many cars in the mid 80's could exceed 55 mph comfortably if not at all in just 2nd gear.
2) The sexiest cars available at the time were put into music videos whether the artists actually owned them or not.
3) Rising star may have driven the fast, yet more "affordable" German P-car before "upgrading" (yikes!) to the Italian F-cars. Not sure when the song was actually written on his career timeline.
No point to rehashing unsubstantiated rumors, but if anybody has a collection of music mags from this age, we could find truth.
