I used to be a PCA member before I realized that Panorama is worthless and I can participate in any club events without being a member of what is basically a 911/Boxsters-only club.

Usually buy 911 & Porsche World, Excellence and GT Purely Porsche from newsstand but haven't seen GTPP for some months now. Hope it's still exists and local distributor just isn't carrying it anymore. Would hate to see it disappear.

I am very surprised that so few seem to be 928 Owners Club members. I'm trying to figure out how I should interpret that. Do you think the club does not offer enough value? If so, what would you expect from the 928 Owners Club, that would persuade you to become a member?

I'm a member and the club is very dear to me - I believe that as our cars get older, we'll have to speak with one voice when it comes to lobbying the factory to remake discontinued parts, etc. I also think that a nation- or even worldwide umbrella organization can bring together the many small local groups and help them in sharing knowledge and resources.

I hate to say this, but to me the 928 OC has more value than PCA at this time. PCA would not have gotten me as far as Wichita, but the 928 OC did.

PCA and Rennlist, plus a whole lot of other clubs. Past region president of PCA.
Also BayAreaRennGroup for drives to terrorize the neighborhoods around the rural mountainous roads. You came along with us on one drive down Mines Road Nicole...remember that one? As a result of our responsible habits, Highway 9 and 35 are now covered with hungry bears. Good thing it is getting colder so things will cool off for awhile. PCA is luring me to Pennsylvania next summer.(Parade junkie). Have to take exception to Big Dave: lots of other models in PCA, and the events at the Parades reflect that. The hardest core members seem to be 356ers. Nuts I tell you, nuts. Sick. No way to live. But no one has ever told them that. One guy paints his car with an airbrush, compounds it then comes to Parade in it and wins. Must be lacking "normal" social attitudes. May need to go to a shrink if I keep hanging around them.

All I meant was that I didn't see a reason to remain a member of the PCA. The Panorama magazine is nearly worthless to me as a 928 owner, and I've never been denied access to an event just because I wasn't a PCA member. Our group of 928 owners around here is oblivious to the PCA, except for crashing their wine and cheese parties.

I must agree that 928 material is very skimpy in Panorama. Autocross entrants with 928s are also in short supply. In fact few 928s enter concours events as well. Come to think of it, now that you mention it, I guess I must get off being an oddball there. But I also have a 914/6 fetish so it works out. Those little cars still do well in the autocross and there are always a couple of nicely preserved ones in the concours. But it is true that many PCAers aren't really familiar with 928s, and I confess I wasn't until I got hooked.

I read Rennlist and various owner's websites for my 928 info. For magazines, I have a subscription to Road & Track, because its nice to stick one's head up once on a while and see what's going on the automotive world, regaurdless of marque.

Maybe a missed opportunity for me....But it goes to show you the impact of first impressions....I had some interaction with a past president (or what ever they call the head poobah over there). I thought he was a pontificating jerk and decided to steer clear of him and the "club" he had formed. You never really know the true impact your behavior has on your life.......of that, I am sure.....

Hi Gretch,

I am hoping that I am not the "pontificating jerk" you are referring to. I have only been the 928 OC president for the past year of so, and while I have been called many things in my life "pontificating jerk" isn't one that sounds familiar

Like Nicole, I see a value in the 928 OC, and so became involved to make changes. There have been many changes in the past year or so, including changing all board positions to being elected by the members and use of club funds to ensure members receive benefits.

Hopefully the 928 OC will continue to grow, as it has for the past year, and be able to provide direct benefits to members, as well as supporting local 928 events.

If you have an specific questions, please email me directly.

Thank you.

I'm not yet member of 928 OC simply because there used to be some difficulties on paying membership fee from abroad and I haven't bothered to check until now what's latest status on that. Now looking at http://www.928oc.org/signup_information.htm it seem payment is done with Paypal. There's no obstacles on joining anymore.
