BC,

You saying your motor is peaky, but not torquey???

Would it be possible to put a stroker crank in a 4.7 Euro to get more torque? Would the CIS handle that many cubic inches? Just throwing spagetti on the wall. I've got a 300hp CIS sitting next to my beer fridge.

Yep. It flows more air, with the heads, cams, and intake...
I have headers too, so the air and fuel moves in and out with ease.
And it's not that it isn't fast. It is fast. It's by no means slow off the line.
But once it gets up into the RPMs, it takes off like a bat out of hell.
But I would greatly love some "muscle car" acceleration off the line.
I don't know if it is the engine, or the gearing. I have been told that
replacing the torque converter with a custom one will give me what I want.
So that may be a lot cheaper option than a stroker.
But since Carl's supercharged CIS cars do fine without fuel mods,
I would guess that the CIS might do fine with a stroker engine,
without modifying the fuel system too much. But if you needed to,
you could probably talk to Carl about adding his mods to your stroker.

It's just one of those situations like John's turbo setup on his 4.5...
It can be done, but why do a stroker on a old 928s, and why
turbocharge one, when you can put the same turbos, or stroker
crank, on a 6.5 liter s4 engine? If you are going to spend the
money, and take the time, to do a supercharger setup, or a
turbo, or a stroker, why not go all out? Even if it means
you have to sell your old car, and get an s4 with a blown engine...

It just makes more sense, to get something with more potential,
rather than starting with an old one...

That is not to say that I won't do something with mine.
But my guess is that I will do the torque converter mod, rather than
doing the big mods, because if I choose to do big engine mods,
I would rather have something really insane when I am done...
Why spend thousands and thousands, only to gain 50-100HP?
I'd rather spend a little more, and have a 600HP car...

I and I say that bcdavis could also advance his cam timing, mon, to bring more torque at a lower rpm, and make the torque converter his beech, sar.

BC,

As you say, it could be a function of your auto Tranny. I can't coment as I've got a 5 spd. I did get a chance to ride in an 83 Euro S 5-spd a few years ago at Devek days. I think the guys name was Chris Minks? Anyhoo, Devek Cams, headers, etc. That 4.7 absolutely hauled Arss!!!! Course I think he was punching it from about 3000rpm. Just wondering if you threw in (more to it than that) a Stroker crank making it a 5.7, if the CIS would handle, and if it did, I gotta think you're going to get a hell of a lot of grunt down low. Talking to some of the hybrid 5.0 guys, they seem to all say the same as you. You gotta give her rpms for her to really come alive.
I think trying to put a 6.5 S4 motor in an early model has got to be an expesnsive nightmare. Not something I'm willing to do, or have someone do. Most people say, sell the 79 and get an S4, well yes I love the later models, but for me to sell mine makes no sense. (To me) It drives and looks brand new, and it's payed for. It is what it is. But damn, it'd be great to have a lot more power underhood. I'll finish everything on the car that "needs" to be taken care of. Work my way to the exhaust, for a little bit of power. (85-86 exhaust manifolds, mandrel bent exhaust, etc.) then make my way to the motor. I gotta hope that there will be more choices by the time I get there.
Than again, There's always the Quick Carl method!!!!

I think I may try the custom torque converter soon.
