Default What's that **** do? Twisting the rear defrost button in '83 Euro S

I discovered today that my rear defroster works, lucky for me. OK, it operates by pressing the button. The **** also will turn about 10 degrees clockwise and rest in an obvious detent. What is the function of that twist?

Push = Defrost, high setting -- 15 minutes IIRC
Twist = Defrost, low setting.
Push & Twist(Or Twist & Push) = Run on high setting for set time then drop back to low setting.

Default Online Owners Manual

John Pirtle's Owners Manual is for an 87 S4, however you will find that a fair amount will be applicable to earlier cars.
