Flat Dish to Club Sport wheel mod ??
I've been toying with the thought of removing the "excess" material within the webs on the S4 flat dish forged wheels to achieve the more open style of the CS wheels (as in the avatar). I had discussed this with a most capable machinist with CAD/CAM capability who says that it could be done easily: I would supply the radial mapping for the cuts - and he would do the machining in two passes (~90% off on the 1st pass, and now with a 'drop zone', the last 10% so errant chips will not mar the anodized surface, minimize tooling marks, etc.).
Why do this? - I much prefer the CS wheels, and have not found a second set. Regarding structural integrity, I cannot see any comprimise by removal of apparent 'fill' material within the reinforced webbing on the back face.
So, what do you think? I assume this has been done before: Any does/don'ts. experience available? Opinions/advice ....

I like my Club Sports too. Machining would probably be less expensive than these:
Club Sports( No Affilliation)
I may be wrong, but weren't the 944 Club Sports 16x7?

Garth,
I guess they could qualify as a "poor man's" Club Sport then. The flats are pretty boring and undesirable in my opinion. But $400 won't get you much of a wheel upgrade if any, so I guess it makes sense for a "better" than flats look if you don't have the cash.

Garth:
Devek already offers this modification to manhole covers. In fact I was also considering it as I certainly like CS wheels considering cost, and size. Check with Susan who has them on hand. Warning: they are 10 footers, meaning they are not nearly as attractive as the real ones simply because they are just cut out and smoothed at the edges but lack the detail yours have. I guess if I could ever get to the end of my "to do" list, I would get Cup wheels; I have all but given up trying to find nice CS wheels like yours, (unless you leave your car parked outside my house some night ).

Have you considered the really cheap alternative? At Jager Engineering, they have decals that "blacken out" some of the dish's sectors, resulting in a look not too far off from a CS. Not quite a CS as they admit but close enough. I was just at their website today as I was thinking of this cheap ($30) visual change. They are convincing - I saw a set at the recent Devek days, and not until the owner said that they are flat dish wheels with the decals, and a more closer look, do you know for sure. I am really thinking about it - buying a new set of wheels is pricey (especially if one is looking for GTS wheels or good copies).
