sounds like a good deal so far. If you have the cash and the desire go for it.

Why do you want a 84? Track car maybe ? Sounds like a lot of work needs to be done to this car.

Yeah, I'm thinking a lot of work as well - and if I get it I'd want it to be a daily driver. I'm still interested in that white 86.5 for sale on the rennlist classifieds but I don't want to get another 928 and sell it just because it's not a stick. Hmmm. The only one keeping me away from this one is the tranny problems. You guys this it's serious?

It IS a 5-speed!

I agree - probably a lot of work. BUT - worst case - you'd probably get your $ back in parting her out!

For a restore...if that bra has been on it for a long time and it's been in the weather - the front end & hood paint is gonna be FUBAR!

Don't do it. Let your head clear. In a week, the impuse will have worn off and you won't regret not buying it. You could buy a nicer example for the purchase price of this car plus what you would spend sorting it out. There are plenty of them out there.

I can't go to eBay from work, so my observations are based on other people's comments above...

It's just as much work and expense to fix a neglected 84 as a neglected newer one.. so if you're going to make the commitment to a fixer-upper 928, why don't you wait for a newer project? then you'll leverage your efforts and have something even better when you're done...

Steve, I just love your Euro.

The older I get the more partial I'm becoming to the pre-S4 models.

I think I'll stay away from this one, even though it is a 5 speed. Maybe I'll make a last bid for 1800. Cmon, that's a good deal.....

Vehicle Description

This car is a 1984 928 S, 5 speed transmission.

This is certainly a project car, but I believe it's worth the time. It's clean in and out and underneath (not rusted), but it needs mechanical and body attention (light passenger fender and quarter panel damage). This car is COMPLETE! Nothing is missing except the rear passenger side marker lens. I'm advertising locally as well - first cash buyer takes the car. This car was listed before on EBay, but the buyer backed out when he couldn't afford to ship the car, and work has been done since (tires, etc).

This car would be a great restoration project or a track car, or with some minor work it could be a cheap daily driver 928. I've got a 2nd child coming in 2 months, and I've already got a gorgeous, nearly-completed 928 project. This one has to go - I have no place for it. This car is fully drivable (I've driven it about 70 miles just this week), but due to little road time in the past 2 years, trailering for long drives would be recommended. I have some repair documentation for the vehicle, as well as the original invoice (for $52K). Email me with further questions.

Vehicle Condition

This car has good and bad things about it. I'll try to be as detailed as possible:

GOOD (newer means less than 8K miles):

- newer tires

- newer clutch

- rebuilt trans (all bearings, other items)

- good brakes and e-brake, brakes need nothing

- tight suspension, needs nothing

- newer battery

- dash recently recovered ($250)

- CD stereo, works great

- all electronics/switches work

- AC compressor runs!

- car drives well

- recent timing belt and tensioners

- white face gauge package

- Halogen H4 headlight upgrade

BAD:

- needs plugs, wires, cap, rotor (complete basic tune-up)

- shifter needs adjustment, or trans wasn't rebuilt properly? I can’t get the car into 1st gear, 2nd and 3rd are harder to find than 4th and 5th. The car is very driveable, but 1st gear was kind of hard to get into, then one day I couldn't get into it at all. Reverse is fine.

- Odometer stuck about 2 years ago at 86K. Likely to be about 95K miles now, but certainly no more than that. This car was not driven much at all.

- AC, although compressor does kick in, is not cold out the vents.

UGLY:

- front chin spoiler has been removed due to incident with small animal

- estimated $1500 in paint and body damage repair on passenger fender and rear quarter panel

- nose needs paint, but is complete under cover

Tariq: IF it goes for under 2K, it is not a bad deal, BUTT . . . . You know what you are getting into, just for a DDriver, Tbelt, etc. I believe I saw a manual tran for $500 on ebay just to give you an idea, not a recommendation. A used one from the big 3 is $1200 IIRC, if avail. You may not be able to drive it home. I'm guessing $5K to make it dependable as DD, unless you can install the tranny yourself.

In ADD SPEAK......"needs plugs, wires, cap, rotor (complete basic tune-up)" that means it does NOT RUN RIGHT and maybe just maybe $250 of parts MIGHT make it run right ....same as" A/C needs freon " means it HAS A LEAK somewhere . Or if someone is selling a puppy dog "Good watch dog" means Barks At EVERYTHING . "Needs large yard" means the hyperactive little devil Destroyed their house! Add Speak ,read between the lines . This seller is honest when he states trailer it home. That is a long ,long way from a "daily driver". The shifting problem is probably in the linkage but it has been driven around some starting in second and searching for the other gears. In my opinion ,there a three major components to any car , mechanical, paint, interior it is better to find a project car which does not need all three, best if it only needs one area fixed. This project needs a lot of love.

I emailed the seller with my info and he just left me a VM. I was thinking about calling him back but I'll pass. I'm at that point where if he says the right things I might just bid on it. I guess I'll have to wait for the next one.....

Fishy again to me. Same seller selling the one I mentioned earlier. Would cost a lot to get up to speed. I don't like it at all!!! He says he has another one, but, it is selling too. Don't do it. Does it have any seaweed growing under wheel wells?

Could be a high dollar car to get into shape. My 83 Euro is for sale but I have a local kid hot for it so he gets first crack at it. The euro is in far better shape mechanically than that 84. Remember, you get what you pay for. Take your time and don't rush into anything like I do. Let me tell you, you will pay for it in the long run. And pay & pay & pay. You get the idea.
