TRAINS HATE PORSCHE'S
VENTURA, Calif. (AP) -- A car-carrier loaded with vintage Porsches was struck by a freight train Sunday after becoming stranded on railroad tracks, officials said.
The accident occurred about 3:45 p.m. near the Ventura County Fairgrounds, said Lt. David Wilson of the Ventura Police Department, who was at the scene.
The car-carrier was "high-centered" on the railroad tracks and the driver was trying to maneuver it off the tracks when Wilson arrived.
Wilson said he called to have train traffic stopped, but a northbound freight train came barreling down the track only moments later.
The front engine of the freight train came off the tracks and Union Pacific crews were called to the scene to get it operating again, Wilson said.

Even sadder for the next person to buy that 'fresh body-off resto' that Thaddeus is right. Though it will be done (theoretically) on the trucking co's insurance dime, so the job might be ok.

The black car alone was very ,very expensive Speedster Rudge knock off wheels, optional hardtop..... Plus derailed the train .....guess who pays to get the train back on track plus lost revenue from the inability to use the track ! The truckers insurance could be maxed out , something like this can put people out of business.

Interesting point Jim. I wonder however, who exactly is responsible for the maintenance of the train crossing. If the carrier bottomed out on the rails, who could blame the trucker for that?

Not that it would have made a difference but I cant believe cars of this quality werent being transported in a closed truck. Have a feeling it will take a very long time to get this settled......
