Alarm came on while car running....
1989 S4 Auto
.....alarm has been dodgy lately. Sometimes it would go off when opening the door (after being shut off, of course). Other times it would not go off when opening the door, but car wouldn't start and after trying to start a second time, alarm goes off.
Last night...pulled in driveway....car still running...passenger gets out and the lights start blinking and the horn starts going. Car kept running though...weird.
I think my problem is a loose door lock or something. It just seems that when I unlock the door, it feels like it kinda "clicks" back a wee bit towards the locked postion. Also, sometimes when I lock the doors from the drivers side, it takes a few turns to get the passenger side to lock.
Is there an adjustment for this? Does it have to do with that rubber disk in the side of the door that hides the allen socket?
Thanks all,
Jeff

Jeff and Ralph,
I'll bet it is the damn rear hatch switch. After I had 928 Intl send me a new switch and after putting the two spacers in the aft section I found that the Alarm finally test and works correctly. That switch is a pain, but, controls a lot of things like overhead lights and in killing your battery, Dude!!!! Check out my rear hatch fix. CHECK YOUR CENTER OVERHEAD DOME LIGHT. DISCONNECT.

I had a similar problem, and found that testing for the faulty hatch switch is quite easy. Since the open/close sensor switch is a "to-ground" switch, pulling the connector from it takes it out of the loop. If the problem disappears, that's the culprit. If not, it's definitely not!

Jeff,
Check search post by "redidrum". As Brian said, Disconnect the rear hatch connector under the tool compt. cover. Might as well remove the dumb wiper plug too. I removed my entire wiper assy. and put some rubber plugs over the ends as caps. Looks better without it and interferred with rear hatch operation. Useless accessory.
