Thad, Your kid is on the right track. Thought I think an NSX looks just a bit cooler then the S4 but not by much.

You're comparing apples and oranges.

I've driven an NSX, it has smooth electric acceleration and only slight oversteer with fine brakes. A wonderful, exotic looking automobile. It's a bit sterile for my tastes (I could afford one if I wanted).

My 928 was born with a soul. It's the only car I've owned that I felt loved me back. My 928 is different than any other one I've ever been in. Not only can I drive proudly anywhere, but I can carry my wife dressed in her finest and justifiably pity every other man I encounter.

In the end you have to consider that the 928 is a high end touring GT. I'm willing to give the NSX it's due, but I can climb into my 928 and dash off 1000 miles at over 100mph and get to my destination in comfort. Try that in the NSX and you'll be a wreck.

Some kids learn about taste and class early, others never learn...

On the other hand, there are many reasons for chosing a Porsche over other cars, so it does not automatically mean that someone who choses a Porsche always has class. Why can't life be more simple???

Thad, smart kid. My 6yo daughter is smart like that too. I laugh every time she starts pointing cars out on the road and telling me what they are.

We went to a Concors d'Elegance last Sat and she first pointed out the 911 Turbo, and then had to have her pic next to it, then pointed out the 356. Smart kid.

FWIW, my favorite cars, in order are:
1. 928
2. NSX
3. Ferarri 400i/412.

Well, I happen to own a NSX as well as a 928GTS.

The NSX has a completly different personality with an engine eager to mount in RPM's (redline 8000 RPM, Vtec kicks in at 5500 RPM). It's more racier in standard trim (lower and lighter). Driven hard on the street you never go over 12 l /100 km, at Spa-Francorchamps it eats happily 23 l/100km. The paint bubbles on the rims from the heat, brakes are good but not 928-good. I have NEVER EVER had to fill a drop of oil in it. People use their rear tires in 8k miles? Well mine are now 20k km and still roadlegal (despite 6 trackdays with 4 Hr's of driving /day).
The qualified NSX-dealer charges me peanuts for normal maintenance (about 100 US for oil+ filter, airfilter and brakefluid). Gearchance is a dream, precis in a clic clac-way.

The 928GTS is bigger, more space, more "build for fat germans". It doesn't appear quick but I was drawn into a race with a BMW M3 and the needle touched 270 kph while still accelerating. Never saw the M3 again... However I drive on the streets, I get 16l/100 km and 2 l of oil / 1000 km. At Spa it tooks happily 40 l/100km.
Gearchance could be better, better by a lot. Build quality is top notch and solid: if the handbrake handle were detachable, it could be used as a dangerous weapon. Could do with somewhat more horses , lets say 100 HP extra but then I would surely want some more. Maintenance (dealer) is the Porsche-way: very good at a very high price due to their no compromise
style of work: timing belt, waterpump, clutch, flywheel, new seal at crank, remplacement hose for servosteering and the search for an elusif bad contact, new pump in tank, changing all fluids = 9.000 US$ ...

Speedwise both are in the same league: more than sufficient, from 0 to jail in about 5-6 seconds.

Which I prefer? I never choose when in doubt: I have them both and I will keep them forever or to their fatal crash. They are not my daily drivers: it would be fatal to my drivers licence and I believe these cars are like race horses: love to run, hate to walk.

Next car on the list is in progress: a 928 trackcar, build for endurance racing (4Hr and 10Hr), aiming for 400HP in 1300 kg of car and slicks because on the track both cars on street tires and standard suspension reach their limits.

What would be the best of both worlds? A Honda 928 with a 5.4 or even better 6.4l midship engine, 1300 kg, the gearbox of the NSX and 500 horses off course. The car to be maintained by the Porsche-NSX-certified dealer at Honda prices.

Tom DM,
That is a great comparo! They are completely different animals. Of course you've got the cream of the crop of 928s, with the GTS. I just can't get past how incredibly beautiful the NSX is, though. My gosh, that is like a piece of art. My main complaint about the 928s I've had was the fact that every time I turned around, I needed to spend $300 on this or $600 on that. From what I've heard and read, that isn't the case with an NSX. I've never owned one, but I will. All this talk has got me thinking too much about it! I am GOING to own an NSX! I'm going to trade or sell my Jag and my Harley and buy one. I'll have to et the oldest NSX, with some miles, but if anyone know of one for sale, PM me. I'm officially IN THE MARKET! I prefer black, but will consider any color.

The Acura NSX frame is all aluminum and weighs in under 500 pounds. Super reliable and easy to fix. Modifications are numerous for this car. Parts are also relatively cheap compared to a Porsche.

I have seen a supercharged, newer NSX running around at several of the rocky mountain region SCCA road races, that thing is pretty cool. It has the integrated headlights rather than the popups, which IMO really gives the car a much more aggressive look to it. The think is wicked fast, but I agree with the statement that the engine tone isnt exactly inspiring.
