Engine Out

Well the engine came out yesterday. A special thanks goes out to lawndart who sacrficed his Saturday in mid-90s weather to help out - I'd still be under the car this morning if it wasn't for him. It went surprisingly smoothly with only one or two small hang-ups. Since my garage is not air conditioned we did it in the driveway, and no sooner did we get the engine pulled than the thunder started peeling. About 30 mins later it started to pour down - about 5 mins aafter I got the car back into the garage.
The engine is an M28/09 Euro. Most of the hoses need replaced but it was running well before I started the project. I'll be either putting it up on the classifieds or on ebay in the next couple of days. Any advice on the best way to ship/shipper to use if I can find a buyer?
Again thanks to all who answered my questions, and also to lawndart for his help.
Cheers

Dave,
This was a federalized motor - there were a couple of tiny Ford precats there - not Porsche original - helluva lot easier to cut than get the rusted bolts off

What are the plans for the car?
You'll need new motor mounts for that S4 engine. Never a better chance to replace the clutch master. Or any number of other things in there.
Looks like the left-side FI lines are toast. That loop behind the chains is the lift point. I used a leveler that was a bit longer and then a third chain to the PS pump bracket to level the engine. The two lift hooks aren't opposite across the center of gravity. (HTH the next guy to pull an engine.)

Glen,
I have a Jacquemond Clockwork Orange kit on order - it should be here in a couple of weeks. I plan on installing a supercharged 32v, and pretty much upgrading everything else.
yes, the leveller was a bit on the short side - hence just the 2 chains - but it came out pretty balanced (after we removed the last wiring harness!!)

As far as the FI lines - I am assuming you mean the ones on the left side of the motor that looked "squished" by the chain in the photo - that is just the camera angle - the chain is actually to the front of the lines and they are perfectly intact.

Ken,
Please clarify, I must have missed something. You are going to put a body kit and S4 motor into that car in the pictures??? I have a parts car with more left on it than that one... Why aren't you just starting with a complete S4?

Old,
Does seem kinda crazy doesn't it!! That car does have more parts to it - they are in my garage. I am going to do a "ground up" restoration/customization, so to get an S4 when I was going to customize the body, and most of the interior panels didn't make much sense. I am still in the dissassembly stage, and am really enjoying getting my hands dirty.
I am beginning to rethink the 32 v motor - Quick Carl's Stage 3 supercharger system is beginning to grow on me.. I am going to check compression ratios on my motor but would probably do a rebuild anyway. Budget is low now, so I'll make that decision later - probably a lot later. Meanwhile I am going to concentrate on cleaning the body in prep for the kit.

Hypothetically speaking, what would you sell the engine for?

I guess it seemed a little troublesome to me, esp. since the S4 engine swap is not a trivial matter.
IMHO, an S4 or 85-86 with a trashed exterior would seem to be the ideal candidate for your project.

Did all of the Euro motors have air pumps or was that added?
Is that a 4.7? If so, I'm interested in buying it.

It is a 4.5L, M28/09, so per 928 specialists it puts out 229 hp at 271 ft/lb. Not sure if the air pump was added or not. I am going to clean it up and then make a decision on whether to sell or keep. Not sure what they are going for - maybe around $800, but that may be a bit optimistic.
