No, I haven't. The pump was over 1 year old, and until I get the front end of the engine off, I can't be 100% certain that it was the pump.

As soon as I get it home and figure out what the hell went wrong, I'll post it.
Dave, that's great news. I'm glad you decided to give it some thought. I hope you decide not to part it, quite honestly. I did send you a PM but I can get what I need somewhere else.

Just remember... if you didn't love this car in the first place, you would have never put that tranny in... and you probably wouldn't feel so bad now if it was "just a car".

Now, you don't mention where you got the belt... but how likely is it that it sat around too long on somebody's shelf? It wouldn't deteriorate as fast as it would on a rarely-driven car, but it would still deteriorate.

Anyway, best of luck, and we're rootin' for ya...

All the parts from the TB replacement (pump, idler, etc.) came from the same Big Three vendor. I have no idea as to its age or the age of any of the other parts I received.

Big Dave,

Disregard any PMs to you about parting it out. Put on some old Van Halen, not Van Hagar!, Get a big fat Beer, and pull up a soft comfy chair next to the Shark. She'll beg you for forgiveness and to give her one more chance. Mine has given me great joy and frustration. Just like all of the women in my life.

Pick up an old Toyota truck daily driver. I've had one for 17 years. Play with the Shark.

I'ver been a professional musician for 30 years. Once in a while I have to step away from the crappy business and regroup. Always better after a few weeks.

Are there any warranties available from the big three? That would be helpful.

My Opinion.

Dave,

Sorry to hear that. I couldn't buy any parts off you after reading the story. I know your pissed and probably had it after all the work. How many miles on the shark?

Please don't part of the shark if you do get rid of it. Just go out with some friends drink beer, punch a wall or something. After sometime you might want to keep her. I'm sure nobody looks forward to rebuilding after something like that.

I think you need to go outside and scream **** at the top of your lungs. Korn YWAS shows you how to do that very thing.

May the force be with you.

Dave, I can understand your frustration...had a similar thing happen while on vacation a couple years ago. Glad I had it fixed. Hope very much you find a way to avoid parting out a car like that. I sure folks around would contribute some wrenching to help you out.

Best Wishes...

Dave....

I am truly saddened by this news. You were one of, if not the most, enthsiatic 928 owners here in Michigan. Would hate to see you go in another direction, but can understand if you do. 928's are great cars, I know you'll never disagree with that, but there comes a time when maybe it's time to try greener pastures. No love lost here. Hell, it's just a car, not a mistress (notice I didn't say wife...).

Anywho... I'll volunteer whatever I can. BTW, if you're looking, I know an 88 s4 in plymouth that I think you could get somewhat reasonably... I think you know the guy. Let me know if you're interested.

GET WELL SOON!

Thanks for all the words of encouragement. Dennis has a spare timing belt, so I'm going to tear down the front end of the engine, line up the marks, put the belt on and turn it by hand. I'll try to check compression.

If I do end up parting it, there's gonna be some good eating for you fellow sharks. I'd love to sell it as a whole to someone who would put a working engine in it, but I know that I'd recover a hell of a lot more of my money by parting it. The interior is almost perfect.
