Question Auxiliary-air device faulty?

Is the Auxiliary-air valve supposed to be completely open when cold? Mine is only open a little. Is this right?

My valve is the same. The picture in the manual is not that clear, but looks partially open. That is the test for cold operation.
Warm Operation:
Attach the electric plug to the auxilary air valve. Bridge the electric safety circuit. Turn the ignition on. The valve must close completely within 10 minutes.
If not; test the supply voltage (approximately 11.5 volts, ignition off) available to the auxilary air valve at the electric plug.
if sufficient voltage is available and the valve still does not close, replace the valve.

I've gotta ask what temp was the device at when you tested it?

It stands to arguement that the colder the engine and incomeing air, the higher the starting idle needs to be. So it would seem that if you were in Arazona in the summer on a midday, it won't be very open, but if your in Canada in the middle of the winter, in the middle of the night, it should be very open.

Yes, no, maybe?

I've noticed on warm days, my start up idle isn't very high. Expecaly when I compare it to the idle in the middle of last winter.

VU is correct. You should test after several hours of non operation, preferably overnight. To bridge the electrical safety circuit, remove relay XVII.

I think they close at 35 degrees C. The photo of mine (flashlight shining through it) was about 20 degrees C (80F?) and the opening is about the area of a soda straw. I will connect 12V and see if it closes all the way.

Man I like that.

"VU is correct."

I could get used to that!

Oh well, I'd better hurry up and screw something up so it doesn't go to my head.
