Default Engine Oil Leaks... who has got 'em...

Just wondering how common engine oil leaks are for these cars. This is my second 928. My 9 year old '80 euro had a small leak and so does my 20 year old '84S. Also both cars had/have a "clacking" or ticking noise coming from the top of the engine... sticky valves?

Default well...

Oil leaks are all at the bottom of the engine, no leaks at all visible from the engine compartment. Not sure if I want to fix them or live with them yet. Any easy way to clean out the injectors? When I bought the car they wern't making noise, maybe because it was hot and had been driven about an hour.

To clean them use a cleaner in the gas (LM) is good.

Lot's of post's on injector ticking/clicking.
Lot's of stuff on the lifters clacking with potential cure or two.
Oil leaks?
What kind of oil are you using?
If you made a recent switch to Mobile One or similar synthetic some folks switched back to high grade Dino oil because of leaks and the leaks stopped after a while.
Check Archives and Nicols site.

Brian,
FWIW
My 82' Weissach has a weep back between the TC and Tranny but does not form a drop, no oil leaks at all from engine since I rehabed the oil sending unit and replaced the oil fill canister seals/gaskets. My son's 81' was supposed to have a cam tower -half moon- leak but I can't find it. No drops or seeps visible.

I had several oil leaks when I bought the car, thought they might be from the cam towers or some vicious place...but mechanic in Woodinville, WA did a T-belt job shortly after I bought it and fixed a small leak here and there, including front crank seal, oil pan tighten....and not a drop has leaked in over a year. I use Mobil 1. Can't believe it but there's never a drop on garage floor, even after hard running. I keep pulling the dipstick to make sure that it still has oil inside...it does..so I know that leakless is possible.

They can be made to "not leak" it just doesn't last very long, especially if you use synthetic oil. I do an oil pan tighten-up about once a year and that seems to keep the drips to a minimum. I am a big fan of the synthetic oil, so I am willing to put up with a few drips.

If it is covered with crap that is one thing, if it is gone, you have a major vacuum leak and the car will idle "high"......

idle is normal at 1000 rpms + or - 100

nvm i think i found it, it' s the dipstick down by the fan belt, just a bit used to these newer cars with the big bright handle lol
