Steve,
Sorry I should have spelled out Throttle Body mounts in the V of the engine on 85-86 cars. Filing them down dosen't do anything. The fact they were there at one time means that the block is and 85-85 block. 85-86 blocks have thicker cylinder walls i.e. stronger-better for SCing (or stroking for that matter). It seems that some of the early 87 cars got 85-86 blocks.

Heinrich....and don't forget those are Sweedish twins.

That reminds me I need to come up with a sexy name for the Jag/Eaton systems. I think if they were called something like twin-screw they would be more popular.

is this common knowledge amongst senior rennlisters that there are subtle differences within model years? What other differences amongst s4's are there? Of course I know about the folding wing, but how much of a difference in cylinder wall thickness are you talking about anyway?

Steve,
I really don't know the difference in thickness. I only know it is thicker from reading some recent posts by someone that is doing a stroker motor.
I don't know of any other differences to speak of. But who knows what else will come up. The oil squirter and 951 rods items were controversial then I think about 9-10 months ATB took an early '87 engine apart and found them to be real not legend IIRC.

Nice Heinrich!

The Pac NW is going to have a pretty high per capita blown/stroker ratio very soon.

I think the April Track Attack is going to be very interesting.

Yeah, gives a whole new meaning to "This really blows", or "Man we're screwed" .... ...So Adam, how's that bad boy of yours coming along ..... I hear we're almost there? Btw I also hear Barry has quie the beast there with his overbore, already clocked in excess of Stroker numbers and he's not even dialled-in .... Dave's must be about ready for the first turn of the key, as must Don's ... and of course Dennis, don't forget that firebreathing stroked hi-lifter and his 2.54 .... Poor Tom ... poor poor Tom .... maybe if he moved out of state he'd accumulate enough brownie points for one of those electric sc kits?

Check for conrods was fed x'd out today. Once I get them it's a matter of balancing the components, coating pistons, and viola' - instant stroker short block. Well maybe not quite "instant".

Adam,
If you get a chance will you take a look at the block that you discovered the squirters and 951 rods in ad see if there are throttle body mount pedestal "scars" in the V.
I discovered these "scars" in a low vin "87 auto and took it to mean that it was actually an '86 block.

I'm curious because 85-86 blocks are supposed to be thicker.
Here is where the scar would be on both sides.
