Default sticky rubber

I briefly attended a local track day event today. My second time this summer. My shark is really sharp in the steering/suspension/brake area, but my tires are crap. PO got 205/55/16 when the original size is 225/50, and I don't even remember what make they are, never heard of it. I't feels like driving in the wet, very tail happy handling indeed. I get absolutely no power down when exiting corners, only sideways action.

Since I'm only using the car for fun, and never deliberately in the rain, I'm thinkin getting some semi-race sticky rubber. Not too extravagant that will wear down the first day, but street tires that will work on the occasional track day.

I would like to stick to the original 225-50-16 size.

Any recommendations?

MM

Kumho VictoRacers....about $100 ea...

Hoosier A3SO3 (AX compound) or R3S03 (Road race)...about $180 each...

The Hoosiers are stickier....but NOT, IMHO, enough to justify the price difference.

NEITHER will last very long! But LOTS of fun!

I'd also recommend that you look into the Ott Droplinks. The can help you to tune the swaybars TONS better.

Bridgestone SO-2s or S0-3s. They are pretty sticky, work very well in the rain, and wear pretty well. I got about 20k miles with about 15-20 track days out of the rears. But, they ain't cheap.

The OEM Dunlop SP8000s that I bought one set of lasted <15k miles with three track days. Rears that is.

For some reason it's always the rears that dictate when I need tires...

OK. Where do you get Kumho VictoRacers for about $100 ea?

I have been looking at these for 2 years and they have always been over $130. Am I looking in the wrong places?

Have you located a new interior?

Stick your new tires on and run it before the Ott Drop Links. They are for reducing understeer which at this point is not your problem.

Look into the Toyo Proxies also, the best tire I have owned for track and street.
