Is the unspoken question whether or not your tail lamp warning light would come on if one of the front parking lights were burned out? That would be unlikely, if I am reading these diagrams right.

Any of the lights that come on when you have your lights in the parking light position can cause this warning if there's an issue. That includes the lights you mention, sidemarkers, taillights, license plate lights.

I can vouch that license plate lights will trigger the warning.

My experience with my Euro car may be different, because I have german warnings, I only actually make an educated guess as to the actual meaning.

Frankly,
I'd join the yes crowd.
However, if we are going to step out of the realm of schematics for a moment....
I'll pull a bulb or two tomorrow and get back with you.
AHhhh! The joy of this incredibly stupid warning system... kinda like being strapped down on hot manhole covers while having all of your nose hairs plucked -slowly- by a Irish Lesbian Dwarf.
Exquisite.

BTW, I don't have personal experience with the front markers causing the warning, that info was secondhand but authoritative IMO.

Parnelli, here's a translator. I get "Schwanz-Licht" for "tail light". You can also work backward from what your lights say.

The way it looks to me, the lamp control unit knows about the side markers, rear lights, and brake lights in the rear. If you follow a couple of links sideways to the left a few pages it also connects to the parking lights in the front. It communicates faults to the central warning system. I vote that you will geta warning light if one fails.

BTW, according to the current flows on an 82 there should be no indication of a license plate lamp fault, but if Dave has seen it on a 79 who knows? The only other thing on that circuit is the engine compartment light.

Mine's a 78, and I fixed my taillight warning by replacing all the bulbs and fuses involved, cleaning out sockets as needed. Everything worked beforehand, just had a (*#@$^*%# tail lamp warning, so I took the shotgun approach. By the time I was done, I was so happy the warning went away that I didn't care to analyze the system bulb by bulb.

My ! has been on for quite a while. All lights are fine. Just went out to check my plate lights-burned out. So this is the reason for the ! I thought the license plate lights on the S4 were not connected to the unit!

My Tail lamp ! error message is gone. Problem solved. I cleaned the sockets and replaced both front driving/parking light bulbs and the ! message no longer comes on. So, the question of whether or not your tail lamp warning light would come on if one of the front parking lights were burned out is YES! The front parking lights ARE being monitored by the LCU.
