Well.........technically it is not "mileage"........in some instances, while the tires are moving quite fast, the car is.... er..... ah......"catching up".......

You ain't kiddin Gretch.
I've heard about customers disabling the traction electronics and promptly wrecking the car thereafter.

As past history has demonstrated, my car spends most of its time around the 12mpg range.

Well, I got those Hoosiers coming on the 18" cup 2 wheels. Before I take them off the rims, you KNOW I'm gonna try 'em out........Maybe they can help out my mileage "problem".

Tim, only one complaint about the kit.....There is way too much HP here man.......any way of backing it down a bit?

Tim - when you say all stock internals do you mean all 1988 internals, or have you gone to the thicker rods of the 87s. DId you ever do any research on which rods are forged?

Most of the 87 and 88's have the same pistons and rods. Some of the late 88's might have gone to the "newer" rod. My opinion today is that I cannot say for sure which rod design would be superior without doing a destructive tensil test. I am basically running an 87 engine with 89 heads and GT cams. I machined down the dish in the pistons to lower the CR and drilled the drain holes (like the 89 piston) in the wrist pin pockets. There was a design change in the 89 pistons and they would not be suitable for machining material off the top, too thin.

Yes, my engine as you know is an 89 with 75k. I will coat the pistons without seriously machining the crown at all. Possibly some smoothing around the valve cuts, and some smoothing of the combustion chamber, which MAY yield a small decrease in the compression. I also believe that I may coat the combustion chamber in the same manner as the pistons.

Its good to know that I have the drain holes, if I read you post correctly, with my 89 pistons. But when you say wrist pin pockets, you mean the area down my the pin on the ring land or the actual underside of the piston?

With the rods, I have 3 944 forged rods, and I am contemplating getting more (Many sources) and having them machined to work on the 928 crank and also with new rod bolts (ARP) and then new small end bushings.

This will all be balanced as an assembly, but I am unsure as you are about whether this power level really needs rods that are forged. Its not the pushing force - its the RPM, and I will not be going much over 6800. With my DTA controlling the engine very well, I should have a power level up towards yours with a bit less boost, but I will see a bit of track time - simple local area SCCA short tracks, medium DEs and stuff, so any durability I can simply build into the engine without going crazy would be great.

Could you also contact me privately when you have some idea on the block stuff (surround rings)? I'd appreiciate that.
