I've said it before, and will say it again: The fact that someone else does bad does not give you or me the right to do bad also. That's a basic value that I was brought up with, and I'm not going to stray from that.

If you are trying to say that we need to put our focus on combating pollution other than automotive emissions, I agree with you. There is no reason why trucks, suvs, boats, or industrial facilities should be aloowed to pollute freely, when cars are restricted. But that does not mean cars should be allowed to pollute without restrictions.

Pollution comes from many sources, and we should combat it on all fronts before we get areas looking as dirty as the former Eastern Block countries. My visit in the former German Democratic Republic a few years before the wall came down was such a shocker, I will never forget.

With China and India motorizing rapidly, I expect this to become even more of a global issue very soon. Because it all accumulates in the same atmosphere...

You asked, whether I like racing: I generally like the types of racing that more closely relate to the cars we can actually buy, and helps to improve them. For that reason, I think that at least some auto racing should be done with cats also. It would speed up development of better longer lasting high flow cats, and maybe even bring the cost down. There are racing series in Europe where the cars use cats, and there are even diesel race cars. They are no less fun, but the manufacturers learn a lot from this.

Removing a cat does not advance anything - it just takes us back to the old days.... It's 2004, when cars can be clean AND perform well. Why not leave it that way, and work on making other stuff clean also? You might get to enjoy happier, healthier grandchildren for a few years longer before you have to go...

If you were to combine the X-Pipe with cats, it would make you so cool that you'd pee ice cubes...

LOL!

Remember the gain we are talking about - 3% max in extra power. 2-3mph top speed (which you will never have a chande to use here in North America), miliseconds in acceleration, fooled into believing you have more power by the extra noise (and, admittedly, nice sound).

Compare this with the amount of toxic fumes of more than 20 928s that have cats. And you can get the sound with a more sophisticated combo of X-Pipe and high flow metal cat. You can get the same extra power from a set of headers. You can get the same top speed increase with a small aerodynamic improvement, such as the GTS mirrors. There are other, better ways of achieving the same without the negative side effects.

Do it right and be cool! No, it won't hurt...

Talk about getting hosed…used to think being a shark was a cool thing, until the image of mpesik grinning in his helmet w/a hose coming after me, only to be nailed again at a smog inspection by nicole and a smog **** was just too much to bear…

Guess that’s one way to “clean out your pipes”… I prefer a bottle of wine and a hottie, but from the other end, your garden hose sounds like some good fun in a garage, and there’s less chance of a rape conviction afterwards too, unless the shark’s atty finds out… cleanup about the same? sounds better than Richard gere’s gerbil anyway…maybe Colby should have spent more time hosing his car instead of…ok, ok..

mpSpeaking of exhausting enemas – our dear ms Nicole, you don’t really believe the American consumer can hold water compared to industry on environmental pollution…of course, as a group auto pollution is a collective concern - but compared to industry? Cars/consumers are an easy target cause consumers don’t have a decent lobby group…and while diesel stuff is un-hampered, presumably to avoid “destroying” our economy, lots of folks get diesel powered pickups and cars just to avoid smog regs…go after them…I’d take a clean running cat less car over a bozo who commutes w/a 7Litre diesel pickup, or coal fired power plant that traded pollution credits, or paint shop that removed it’s paint booth filters any day…unless it’s a ricer…

Heck, smoking cigarettes puts more junk in our air than all of our cat less autos in good running form…don’t see any cats on a carton of cancer sticks now do we? RJR wouldn’t stand for it, even if it’s w/his last breath…

But don’t worry, I’m sure it won’t be long before cat removal (in spite of meeting CA emissions criteria) will be linked to terrorism…ok, maybe only if you remove your cats on a Sunday…but you have to admit, we are kind of worrying about a relatively rare occurrence when placed against a backdrop of reality…however you can sleep well tonight, knowing I’ve purchased cats for my header/xpipe system at considerable expense – just so folks like you can breathe easy, at least until the diesel powered cowboy in front of you starts up, and saves/wakes you from jack's wet dreams…

928 developments.com has an xpipe/header/cat setup that can be in 2.5" or 3"...louis's 2.5" only xpipe won't work w/headers, but can be fitted w/free flow cats - get the metal substrate, they hold up better w/aftermarket chips according to porsche, and can be found as "low" as $250ea...uh oh, chips might pollute more too, so please be careful...dr gas has some cool stuff too...dyno charts are on louis's page and on tom cloutier's (the power broker)pages, some w/and w/out cats...

in CA, it's not really much of a choice, it's cats or no smog cert/registration and nicole will hunt you down and do the mpesikable...

My old 86 928 passed emissions without cats, and I didnt cheat. If you have your motor running well it will burn clean. I second the free arguement.

Surest way to prevent pollution in the future is to QUIT HAVING KIDS!!!! Think about it, if one worldwide generation stopped having kids, this world would be a much cleaner place in 100 years...so go out and enjoy your cat-less cars knowing that the pollution stops when you stop.

Unless of course, you've already had kids...in that case put your cat back on, save the world for your kids sake!

Rich.....no kids, sometimes no cat....

Are there a good set of free flowing cats that can be used in place of the originals on a '94 GTS?

And if so, can I run the free flowing cats with the original resonators and a rear muffler bypass?

If so, how would this sound and how much HP increase should I expect from that setup?
