I need an upper A arm ball joint rebuild kit, is 928 Motorsports a safe place to order from or should I look elsewhere and not risk it?
Any advice will be appreciated
Brian
Thanks, sounds like 928 MS should be a last ditch effort. I couldn’t find a ball joint kit on the 928 International website, I found the full rebuilt arms, but I just put new bushings in mine and decided to put ball joint boots on for good measure and found degraded plastic once the boots were removed.
I just received my upper ball joint rebuild kit from 928 Motorsports last week. It did take a month or so to receive but they responded to an email when I asked where it was.
If there was another place to order it I would go there but I don't know of another place.
One other thought the spiral retaining clip. I had a hard time getting it to seat. It's almost like it's not quite large enough in diameter and you have to get it centered side to side. Take your time and make sure it's in right before you go to the next step.
You may want to reach out to Rennbay; they have rebuild kits that they say are compatible with the 928 (depending on year) and they look a lot like the 928MS kits. I'm pretty sure it doesn't work for my cars so I haven't really investigated too much more but maybe it's an option for you.
Technically, 928 MS doesn't really exist anymore.
Carl retired and sold out to a company called Motion Products. They are a fairly high end restoration outfit, they are known to do good work on Ferraris and 60s muscle cars.I know one of their techs a bit, and he said that 928 MS turned out to be a 'less than great' purchase.
They are keeping it going, continuing to sell the stuff that Carl created, but R&D has ended.
Initially I thought they were just selling off his inventory. Are they manufacturing product you think?
I don't know.
I haven't talked to the fella in a while. He had mentioned that during a 'state of the company' meeting/presentation, 928 MS wasn't even on the list of 'subsidiary companies'. They said that the purchase of it wasn't as good an idea as they originally thought.
The website is still up and shows stuff for sale (as a subsidiary of Motion).
If I had to guess, they're going to make the easy stuff that sells well (skid plates come to mind).
But that's just a guess.
I ended up getting them from Rennbay. Decent quality overall and a lesson learned. Check the plastic cup for the ball joint first even if they feel good when removed.
