Default CV Joint Lube

I have an S4. The outer CV joint does not come off the shaft. My question is the cap on the outer CV joint that the boot attaches to. Does this come off like the other caps. I thought it will be easier to clean and relube the outer CV if this cap was removed. Is this possible, or make due packing and cleaning through the smaller opening in the cap?

Thanks

Here are some pics from when I did mine, seems like a long while ago but I still remember vividly how messy the damn grease is.

Some people have trouble getting the outer (transmission end) CV off but with a few well aimed blows it usually gives in.

I went through the same thing, but on the earlier model the CV comes right off of the hub. Chris, I had the same issue with trying to get pics amid all the grease too.
