When using a needle attachment on a grease gun to refill ball joint boots...
... does one actually run the needle through the rubber boot, or do you somehow work it around the edge of the seal in some way?
Never done it before...
Thanks

I had one of those. I never used it. It just didn't make sense to poke a hole in the boot and have a grease leak. Once, I did drill & tap in a few zerks on a car.

I've done it. After you are done, you have to clean the hole you made and you can seal it up with some super glue. Not the best method mind you, but if the car in question is old and you just want to add some lube, it works.
For some CV joints, you can get a larger needlt between the axle and the boot without making holes, just make sure you use the CV joint grease.

I did a google on grease guns and needles and found a site on injuries associated with it... apparently people using powered grease guns occasionally inject grease "into their hands, sometimes up to the wrist". This requires immediate treatment or "gangrene and amputation are the likely result." reckon I'll stay with a hand-powered pump grease gun if I do this...
