Default Paintless dent repair... does it work?

Anyone got any info on paintless dent repair? I have looked at a few web sites and seen some before and after shots, techniques used etc. Besides the fact I wont allow for any access holes drilled in the car, does anyone have any experience with it, good or bad? The car I am looking at has one quarter size ding in the b-pillar on the whole car.

Thanks,
Karl

My 95 GTS looked as though it was used as a door stop! Those guys are absolutely amazing. Find a good one and you'll be surprised how they can make stuff disappear.

Saw a guy at this years Hershey swap meet massage a sizeable dent out of a 928 rear qtr panel to absolute perfection. $50 for about 15 minutes of work. He had people lined up as far as the eye could see.
If you find the right 'guy' I'm positive it will work miracles. All lies in finding the person.

I have seen several of these done and it is amazing what they can do. It does all come down to the talent of the person doing it though. Any paint blemishes will remain but it is worth doing. Take the chance and ask around. I ask detailers who they recommend. Even an auto paint supplier will likely have a line on a good guy. Reputations good and bad follow you around.

The dent man was busy at the last Sharkfest. It is fascinating to watch! Not sure how this works, though. A dent means the metal has stretched. Seems to me the metal would have to be shrunk to eliminate a dent??

I've had it done on my previous MBZ and the 928, both with terrific results. Fantastic for the common door ding, possible for some large dents as long as the paint is intact. FAR prefered to pound and paint, the only way before this technique was developed. Usually far cheaper too.

That's my shark in the first picture Steve posted. That was a mean dent on the roof right behind the sunroof. And even though I know every nook and cranny of that car, I can't find where the dent was anymore.

I've also had excellent results, but as others have mentioned, you need to find a guy who knows what he's doing. I went to a couple of high-end lots (M-B, Jaguar) and asked who they used. One of the best $100 deals you can find IMHO.

Exactly. The first time I had it done was at the suggestion of the service writer at the MB dealership. My 6.9 was going in for some repairs. He noticed the 10 or so parking lot door dings and said they could take them out while doing the service. It ended $250 for all 4 doors. They included the receipt from the service they used, and I used them later for my 928, as the job on the 6.9 was perfect. I remember getting a quote from a repair shop a few years earlier that would have involved painting all 4 doors - egad! Paintless dent removal is the way to go, but get a good one, as you say.
