Holy thread resurrection!
I agree with Brendan...track driving takes the edge off a little bit. You don't feel like you need to push to the limits as much because you can do that more safely and enjoyably with less risk on the track...

The cost of a speeding ticket has been my preventative measure!!! Slowing down is your best bet unless you like paying high insurance rates?

My dad taught me to read the brake lights when I was 5 or so, it is the best trick going. I do a fair amount of on the clock approaching three digit driving and I keep an eye on the brake lights and one in the rear view and I do not have a problem with the man.

Following a faster car is called "Having a Bird Dog." CB term.
Track events only calm my driving down for the trip home.
The real trick is to be a really nice guy and NEVER actually admit to speeding when the cop asks...
I've been driving Porsches for the past 12 years and been pulled over 17 times so far. Only got one ticket, and that one I was only going 5 over in a 35. It was in a 944 Turbo with 4 inch exhaust and Flowmaster muffler ie., 128db at 10ft. Said he heard me from 3 blocks away. I changed to MagnaFlow and it dropped it to 93db, no more problems.

Also, fighting the ticket in court using your constitution rights is always a good process as well.

My challenge after track days was always how s-l-o-w it feels driving the speed limit on the ride home after blasting around the track all afternoon. It takes a concious effort at brain speed-perception recalibration.

I don't know what states this is legal in or not (or care). I have a friend that drives like a bat out of hell with a Chevy Avalanche. I don't mean annoying or like a moron, I just mean he hauls everywhere he can to save time etc. He has a Uniden scanner on board. It's programmed for whatever jurisdictions and division you want to here. The awesome part to me is that the antenna is so small and it has what they call a bear tracker. This thing picks up the radio signal from the repeater they wear on their shoulder from 2 miles away. He can't even leave it on in the city because it never shuts off. Out on road trips it's phenomenal. On/off duty, sleeping, local, state, sheriff, it makes no difference they all have those things and don't shut them off in case an emergency comes through. An audible tone and a red light mean get ready. Pretty sweet.
