Default 928 on "cops"

Now, this isn't the most proud example of our cars' performance capabilities, but my brother was telling me about a chase he saw on "cops" last night--at least he was pretty sure it was Cops, and not some 80's chase movie--wherein the car doing the running was a 928...and it got away. Yup, outran the state trooper camaros and outwitted the police helicopter. Anybody else see this?

What version of Cops was this, I wonder? Tonight, I saw an incarnation of the show that I've never heard of before tonight..."Extreme Cops" on the WB network (10-11pm EST). On one episode there was some teen was trying to outrun the fuzz in a late model Trans Am. The chase ended like most of them do with the offending citizen being man-handled to the ground by one or more officer followed by a few high-fives amongst the "cops".

I'd love to see the clip with the 928 if it exists...perhaps some Shark enthusiast has posted it up on the web somewhere?

Far out !!!! When and where can I see it?

Once I had the opportunity to meet one of the fine representatives of Honolulu, Hawaii's solo motorcycle patrol. He was at a Porsche club meeting speaking on whatever bike cops discuss. After finishing his lecture, he asked if anyone knew my identity? I walked up and identified myself. He said he had
experienced the pleasure of chasing me in my 911E on H1 freeway when he was on his hog. He also said that I disappeared into the night and he couldn't catch up to me. Then he said that he would be most grateful if I would refrain from that sort of behavior in the future, particularly if he was around. The truth was that I was not aware of the incident and that he was behind me. Hey, over there they are always chasing Porsches....what's new?! Actually, that was not all he and I discussed that night. We made friends and other things were discussed. Interesting. Now how did he know who I was? Was he so close as to see the plate? He must have confused me with someone else, eh??

"How do you know it was me"? "Did you stop me"? "Did you ask me if it was me?, "what was the answer?" oh, "none of the above????? "Then is was not me, so you owe me an apology......... "

Some of my best buddies are cops, and they will tell you that every profession has their share of ********.............

I have no question that in a 928 we could outrun pretty easily, any fuzz we wanted to, provided that the road had enough room for us to not get bogged-down in traffic. The problem is, there's zero chance I will ever try, because the consequences would be life-changing.

I did once get some blue lights in the oncoming lanes, with a barrier and no way for them to read my licence plate, and their next exit was a quarter-mile ahead, so I just went to 120 and kept it there till I exited the freeway.

Heinrich

It's not really running if you don't know you are being chased I guess!!

I too have taken a freeway exit I didn't plan on here and there over the years

I have used the quick detour technique also, as recently as last Friday evening..............He got a slow start, and I was not sure if he wanted to chat with me, or the driver of the tahoe I was passing when we both went by him at ahem......north of 80 mph. I guess he wanted to chat to the tahoe driver..........

That is my story and I am sticking to it.

And you should see some of the stunts my cop buddies are guilty of........sheesh...even makes me feel like a criminal just laughing about it.

Agreed....not wise to run from the fuzz. I feel there is too much to risk to do it ...unless perhaps they are on the other side of the freeway barrier. I wonder if the three left turns "rule" would work (i.e., run unti the first freeway exit, turn left at bottom of ramp, take the next left, and then another...and then park it for a few mins). I don't plan to try it...

Btw you must wisely use what few advantages you have in the "struggle against oppression". With a 928, what is its most awesome advantage? Raw torque. Actually that is its second-greatest advantage. The greatest being the quick, decisive, responsive, alert and experienced driver who knows his/her Porsche like a glove. Third, it is crucial to have an understanding for one's surrounds, know the roads, and lastly, all electronic tools MUST be up to standard. There is no value in futile attempts to be watchful, unless something is watching your back. And your left and right. And over the next hill. I should add actually, that the ability to avoid idiot drivers is a major part of number one.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, my best friend's father was the town Deputy Sheriff. Best friend's oldest brother was a State Highway Patrolman, one of the other brother's was a city cop. Lot's of fun stories at the dinner table. The moral of a number of them was:

"You can out run the cruiser. But you cannot outrun Motorola."

lol.

must admit never ran from a cop in the 928 never had the need even when I took it upto the 170+ mph a few times,

although I did in my 924 once, and got away with no trouble, but sure does get the blood a racing along.

I have been temped to on a couple other times but decided not to just cause it wasnt worth it. and what I was doing wasnt irresponsible or outragous at the time, so they just let me go. :P

Anybody see the early Chips where Ponch and John got their butts kicked by a "hillclimb prepared" 1979 928. That is my favorite one!
