Default OEM Replacement Roof Antenna Mast

I noticed that the rubber base of my antenna mast has dry rotted and began to crack somewhat. Since my car has spent 90% of its life in a non-UV environment (garage), I'm guessing that this deterioration of the mast bases may be common with '89+ cars.
After doing a little checking on the mast, it turns out that it is a Fuba.....or at least a Fuba-style antenna & mast.
The original mast is almost identical to the roof mounted antenna masts currently on many VW's, except for the spiralling wire that wraps around the stalk of the mast on the 95 & later VW's. Apparently the only function of this wire is to eliminate wind whistle in some applications. It's now used on practically every application.
I looked high & low for an early style (smooth) mast as an exact replacement for the mast on my '91 GT. VW no longer carries them; except for NOS at some dealerships.
Anyway, I've found an exact replacement. It's identical in construction from the base to the tip (except that the mast is 1" shorter than the original.....not detectable unless held next to one another).
The best part is that it's $9.99 w/$4 or $5 shipping...less than 1/2 of what VW would charge for the mast if they had it in stock.
My guess is that these will be out of production sometime in the near future, as there's minimal demand for the smooth masts.
For those of you out there who are looking at the option of keeping your car absolutely stock into the future.....or the option of returning it to stock sometime down the road, picking up one of these might not be a bad idea. Also, not a bad thing to have as a spare for those of you who use a cover regularly, and may lose that mast one of the times that you remove it to put the cover on.
Go to www.antennamastsrus.com (name kinda says it all, huh?). I don't think you can order the smooth (non-spiral) style from the website. You'll need to call them and specify the smooth 16" one.....the one I got is actually 14" or 15". The guy to talk to is Chuck (probably the only guy running the show).

Reviving a couple threads on roof antenna replacement.

I have a replacement antenna but it has the standard Motorola antenna output.

Need an antenna with the threaded output or an adaptor to connect the standard Motorola output to the threaded amplifier input.
