Chuck,
Have you framed the old timing belt yet?
Believe that would be the OLDEST timing belt in service.
1978 (was is delivered in '77) to 2004. 26 years.
That's got to be a record.

I just bought a low-mile (82k I believe) Hellblau '78 with full black leather interior. Has everything stock and present. Will take some engine refreshing (vac, oil leaks etc) and one dash repairable spot, but otherwise .... it's all original. Beautiful car.

Cool!

Post pics when you get the car.

Perhaps you could help me with some items that came originally with the 78 cars. I didn't get any books (owners manuals, warranty book or service book), spare tire pump, jack or any of the other goodies that came in the spare tire well (like the bag to put a flat tire in so you don't get the interior dirty). The car did come with the spare tire and the little orange box with light bulbs and fuse inside. Also, I did buy a new owners manual from Porsche (they have 7 left).

I'd like to track down and buy original parts for everything I'm missing. If the car you're buying has all this stuff, perhaps you could post pics of these items so I know exactly what I'm looking for. The owners manual I bought does show some items but who knows if this is what they actually look like.

BTW, here are a couple pics of my car from last weekend. Rear suspension is out to clean, paint and refresh items in need. Gas tank also out for same reason. Had the gas tank strap, fuel pump cover and battery box powder coated and the look AWESOME! Will start putting things back together this week IFFFF I can figure out how to clean the inside of the tank.

Very pretty.

Because of your cleaning thread on your GTS. I did my 83 the same way, but not as clean. Going to do it to my next shark too.

Wow, ultra-clean ... Mine came with manual and all goodies in the spare tyre well, the plastic and lightbulbs, all tools, perfect rear cargo cover, but nothing in the front LH/EZK location. No sunroof but also no chequered interior. I'll definitely post pics Chuck, but be prepared to toss your cookies, she is in excellent shape, not new like yours.

Tom,

I've definately taken this one a bit further than the GTS. Don't know if I have it in me to go back and do the GTS again............. Never say never!

Heinrich,

I can't wait to see pics! When will you have the car? Looking forward to seeing all the stuff I need to hunt down also.

Chuck,

Thats cool your into the GTS and the old 78!

How did you clean your shocks so well? I tried with alot of work on mine, very hard to get behind the rings side, until you say "Can't see it from my house?" and say F-it.

Isn't this where the first aid kit was located originally (before computers)?

Hi Tom,

I love them all. Next 928(s) will be 86.5 and another GT (damn, wish I would have kept my 89 GT)

I have said that I time or two myself! The shocks on the GTS came clean relatively easy. Used Oil-flo to get the cosmoline off of them (Be careful using this product as it will remove paint if you leave it on too long - BTDT!)

The shocks and springs on the 78 actually look better in the pics then they do up close. I need to work on them some (some rusty spots). Started using lacquer thinner to remove undercoating, cosmoline and greasy dirt with great success on this car.
