Default TB job adhesives and threadlockers

I'm half way through my first TB job with gear and front seals replacement - finished tearing apart, starting to put back together. Is there a concensus on the use of adhesives and threadlockers when things go back together? I've seen some recommendations for locktite on bolts and sometimes neversieze. Same on the gaskets. Dry? Permatex? Too late for the seals - used a little gear oil to wet inside end, then pounded them in (gently). Any thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks,

ted

Likely everyone does it a bit differently, but ..
- seals are fine as you lubed the i.d. lip
- I prefer a light film of anti seize on anything going into the block
- other through bolts/studs get a light hi-tack grease film (Pivot stud shaft, tensioner roller to carrier arm, etc.)
- pump gasket installed dry ( if there is a nick in the pump casting, a dab of permatex)
- a teflon thread sealant (not locker) on the top right tensioner bolt, the tensioner adjuster bolt/lock nut piece, and the pivot stud/bolt threads

Welcome to the List.

I used copper anti seize on all the bolts. I didn't use locktite on anything unless the manual specified to do so. Contradiction: I did use gasket sealer on the waterpump gasket even though the manual didn't specifiy. I was just worried to get it all back together and have a leak. I use thread sealer on the dipstick tube. I used gasket sealer on the oil pickup tube and threads sealer on the bolts for the oil pickup tube.

True believer in Loctite 574! a.k.a. "Porsche flange sealant". ("Flachendichtung" Teile Nr. 043 010 00)

Some of the mass-Porsche-nut catalogs list it as "Orange Loctite".

It's the factory-spec anaerobic sealant for various parts, particular precision-machined surfaces with no gasket ... including parts of the 928 lower end and 911 engine case. Some 944 gurus swear by it for other uses in the motor, even leaving some gaskets out in favor of using 574.

Professionals routinely use it to seal questionable gasketed surfaces, particularly paper-based gaskets. And, it makes a nice thread sealant and a light thread-locker.

A little pricey, but it only takes a thin film, and it's worth it for peace of mind that you won't be doing the job over again. Seems to seal things that other sealants cannot.

928intl does sell it.
