Default should I buy this?

Saw a Weissach today, 113k miles, good to excellent condition interior, unmolested and mechanically sound. Needs about $700 in parts right off the bat, but then will be pretty good. Was garaged until 2 years ago.
3-speed auto, but runs very strong and shifts great. I could be happy driving this car, and I thought otherwise before driving it.

It's cheap, too. Yeah, I know it's "vee-sach". Way cool.

Carl,
You've already answered your own question. You said you "could be happy driving this car". You already own a '89 S4, so you know what to look for. Get the Weissach for the right price and enjoy the hell out of it!

I'm going to take it and get it checked out on a lift with my mechanic, just to know what I'm getting into. Needs pan gasket, shocks, some exhaust work, ds window motor, brake pads (rotors ok), radio antenna (bent), probably steel ball joints, ignition cyllinder needs replacing, alignment looks not too bad (from front tire wear), and a good cleaning. Needs some paint work, but a bodyshop guy owes me some favors ($0).

What's good: original paint is 98% except for two spots, leather dash is 99% perfect (but pod has cracking on top), rest of leather int is very good (almost no rear 1/4 shrinkage), mechanically sound, strong engine/trans., pretty clean underneath (pan gasket is original and oozes), wipers/washer fluid work (!!!), good aftermkt stereo with 6 disk changer hardwired in, original glass all around except for a safelite windshield. Also has new TB/WP. Original gold annodized finish on wheels is in very good shape (!!!).
Only some oil on the ground from pan (not much), none from trans, no coolant leaks (fan works), no ps fluid either.

Better shape than my '89 when I found it.

Should I buy it he asks? Us? The already-afflicted?

Nah Carl. No one should have two 928s.

I mean you cannot drive them both at the same time.

I mean you CAN just eat one Lay's potato chip right?

Did you buy it yet?

Actually, Carl, in all seriousness this sounds like a car that's going to take a lot of bucks to bring into top-notch shape - and I know that's what you'd want to do. Are you ready to drop $10k into it? Just to have a VeeSach to drive?

Worf, I know... I'm not even finished with the '89 yet. But I could do more of the work myself, and there's no time limit. I wouldn't aim for the same standards of perfection either. I'll know more after tech inspection.
