Default Adjuster wants to fix it......WoooHooo

Received the phone call today. The adjuster suggested repair as long as there is little hidden damage found once disassembly has started. That to me is good news but I am a little skeptical. Here's a picture of the damage....That is if I have done this right........Bill

Well, that looks pretty bad, but it could all be exterior sheet metal, and no frame damage...

Good luck!

Unhappy makes me cry just seeing it

It pains my heart to see this, I know it will never quite be the same , but it is good if they do fix it and not just turn it into another donor car. Watercooler is in GTA and might know of a good body shop in your area.

I doubt that they will want to fix it once thay add up all the parts prices . I think the adjuster is in for a shock !! For the hood to be bowed that much the front frame rail is probably bent , radiator core support bent etc. However get me a list of all the parts they need and I will put together a package including shipping to Canada . Maybe , just maybe !!

WTF and they didn't total that? Even if they fix it there will always be something on the car that won't function right ever again after that, e.g. 1 headlight popping up slower than the other one...

WOW - Things are very different with our fine neighbors to the North.

A car in the states would be totaled with 25% of that damage.

I've heard of much newer 928's with much less damage being 'totaled' by the ins. co.

BEST OF LUCK!

Hi Guys.....I know what you mean about never being the same again. It broke my heart to watch it being trucked away. The body shop here where it is at does good work and what I understand they were taking the 928 to a mechanic to have further analysis conducted on its injuries. The 928 still runs as it was backed onto the flat bed and off at the collision center. No smoke, no oil leaks so I hope I'm lucky. Jim, I know there are a lot of pieces involved here but is there anything inparticular that I should be looking out for that might be damaged internally. I mean like something in the drive train, motor mounts etc that could be damaged in a collision of this sort. I do know that the front did not make contact with the engine crank pulley. What can I say.....I've never experienced a crash before and to be honest I hope I never have to go through this again...it really sucks...Maybe a rethink is in order here ...maybe it is retirement time.......Bill

I have a front bumper with shocks. Free if you pick up the shipping, or pick up the parts themselves. I'm just across the river from Windsor, Ontario.

Just trying to help ya.

I've seen a few 928's in better shape go through the salvage auctions totalled. I would think that yours may follow suit after they realize what they're in for. I hope you get it whichever way you want though.
Best of Luck.

Once the full cost to repair is known, if it exceeds what the adjuster will pay, will insurance alllow you to contribute the difference in cash to prevent a total loss on the claim? Some body shops will work hard to bridge a gap like that (re-work some fees) to help the customer avoid a lotal loss on their claim.

Bill,
Perhaps one of your 'need to know' points would be front end suspension geometry. In addition to the frame rails, are the shock towers or upper A-arm locations moved, etc.? A trip on the alignment rack may be necessary to tell beyond the obvious cosmetic issues(which are what the Adjuster may focus upon).
If it passes structurally, and the adjuster says 'yea', great. If he gets cold feet, and offers to pay out, then consider buying back the chassis for a song and either parting out ( sigh!), or rebuilding as per Jim's kind offer.
Regards 'salvage titles', should that arise, you need to talk to Watercooler. He has run the gaumet with the Ontario Ministry of Transport in doing this - it did not sound to be a fun story!( it was just fun to listen to).

Bill:

I may have a passenger's side fender for you, too. I should know sometime today. Same offer.

With the bumper (not the cover, but the metal bumper underneath it) and a fender, that should knock the repair bill down if you decide to repair it.

I'll let you know when I find out if the fender is available.
