Default Replacing driver's side drop link: spring compressor needed?

Hi,

Having finally gotten the driver's front wheel off, I am commencing to do the work that led me to find my over-torqued lugs in the first place.

The drop link is attached at bottom with a bolt to the antisway. The upper mount point is to a bolt that runs through the suspension and has the strut attached.

Do I need to compress the spring to remove that bolt, or is the spring already at full extension? I tried to find my spring compressor but can't. If I need one, I am looking at another day's delay (at least).

Thanks in advance

Thaddeus

Thad - you don't need to do anything to the spring. Best to have BOTH sides of the front of the car in the air (or both on the ground or on ramps) - so that the tension on the sway bar is about equal.

It'll come right off.

Thanks! Maybe I can actually get something DONE on that car this weekend... bought it 10 weeks ago, still haven't driven it much... maybe 25 miles. And the weather is perfect!

Bet it snows 2 days after I get it ambulatory....

Driver's side drop link: DONE. Took about 25 minutes. That may be the easiest job I've ever done on a Porsche, much less a 928.

How did I ever work on cars before I got my air wrench? MAN those things make hard jobs easier! Easy off, manual on....

Thanks for the advice. I try to do one thing per day on this car. I achieved that today.

Thanks again!

Yep - it IS easy. I replaced all four droplinks with the OTT Steroids in about an hour.

So.....what's next for you??

Front bearings. Then I have to remove the sheared lugnuts on the rear wheels.. 4 of them. Then maybe it'll be a viable roller!

Sorry, Thad - but NEITHER of those efforts will be nearly as easy!

The bearings aren't that bad - IF you have the proper "special" tool to set the races. You can do it with a small nailset - IF you are very careful.
I would check some of the 'usual suspects' websites for some step-by-step.

I know it... it took 2 days of careful fiddling around to get the front wheel off without damaging anything. The rears will be just as fun.

As far as bearings go... I have read some how-to's... I have not put a deadline on completion. Leaving it open ended...
