Default My Apologies to All

I am new here. Whether I started the thread or not about me, I would like to apologize for those here who use this forum. I found it necessary to defend myself and perhaps, despite my intentions, I have errored in my means.

I am simply a guy who loves Porsches and Ferraris; I was even a moderator at FerrariForum.net under the name, "Dane."

I am not proud of what happened here today. Perhaps we can all move forward and talk 928s. Please accept my apologies.

Vielen Danke.

So, Veilen, Welcome. What 928 do you have. Are you stationed at Bragg?

Thank you for the re-welcome! It is great to be here. I have agreed to buy the attached 928:

http://home.bellsouth.net/p/s/commun...iew=thumbs&ck=

My wife, six month old son and I will, pending the seller's approval, drive down to pick it up this coming weekend.

Me? I left the Army in Oct 02 and have sold pharmaceuticals since then. However, considering the current state of affairs, I decided to return to service. I flew UH-60A/L Blackhawks but have now accepted a position flying AH-64 Apaches. It may sound strange, I know, so let me explain. My wife is currently an active duty Army UH-60 pilot. The Army is not fond of having two, married commissioned officers in the same unit. So, I was offered an Apache transition and, selbstverstandlich/naturlich, accepted!

Thanks for the welcome and forgiveness. I am happy to "be back!"

I'll post photos of the "new" shark when I get it.

As they say in Ferrari land, Forza Ferrari y Porsche!

Since I don't have a shark just yet, I thought I would post a couple of ex-sweethearts. I purchased each from Peter Sweeney at Forza in Gaylordsville, CT. If you are looking for a true gentleman from whom to buy a car, I can't say enough about him. First photo is the '77 308GTB and the second is the '82 Mondial 8.

The 308 was the treasure but to be honest, the Mondial was more spass to fahren. The cab-forward design was ausgeseichnet!

OK, enough....the pictures. P.S. My German may be a little rusty so I apologize if I am misspelling anything!

I had a Porsche owner friend that graduated from West Point. He resigned his commission in order to get more flying time as they wanted to transfer him to a desk job with a Lieutenant Colonel position. He is now a warrant officer flying Apaches as well!

Congrats on reentering the service.

Thanks for your duty and enjoy the community.

Welcome to the asylum You'll love it here....but please post all Ferrari stuff in the OT area Just kidding....I actually love to admire them from afar...what was your ownership experience like with the Mondial and 308 in terms of maintenance demands (expense) and reliability? Sounds like you've had the experience of owning a Shark before....welcome back to the fold. I'm about 10 mos into ownership of my 89 s4...and love it!!!!
Best,
Tim

Justin,

Thank you for the welcome!

Fast 951,

Yes, commissioned officers in the army do not get the flight time warrant officer's do. Commissioned officers get the command and staff jobs and the have "additional duty" of flying. Warrant's first priority is flying with an additional duty like safety officer, instructor pilot, maintenance test pilot, etc. As a matter of fact, a Colonel (O-6) I know of (not personally) just left the regular army for the guard, resigned his commission and pinned on CW2. Funny thing is if he wants to go back being a Colonel, he can do so as long as there is an O-6 position for him. He could be a Colonel one day and then walk in the next day with CW2 rank. It'd still be hard my being a Captain not to call him "sir" when he was wearing CW2 rank! Who knows when he could be a Colonel again!

Tuk_928,

Thanks as well for the welcome. I was fortunate with both of my F-cars reliability. Namely because Peter Sweeney at Forza sells nice examples and is honest. Second reason being he has Bill Pollard, one of the finest Cavallino mechanics running a shop nearby. Bill PPI'd, and I mean PPI'd each car and, fortunately, they checked out. However, the first car I asked Bill to check was a 1981 308GTSi. It wasn't near as strong as the '77 308GTB so I went for the '77 and was happy I did; nothing like the sweet whistle of Webers. The secret to finding a nice, older example is either a good PPI or a thorough history with a single owner.

I have never owned a 928 so I am excited to say the least about it. I spoke with "my car's" seller again this evening. My wife, son and I will be driving down to pick her up a week from today. We will spend the night and return on monday while on pass; "a pass," sounds high schoolish, huh?!? I hope the weather is good for our return trip as I do not want to start out on a bad foot with such a wonderful car that's been well kept.

I've attached a couple of pictures from maintenance records I had with the Mondial. You can see the grand total for a simple 30K service....no, I did not pay for it. It was done before I bought the car which is another criteria of mine for any F-Car acquisition.
