Default I'm starting to look for mirrors

It is seeming like the 93-95 928 mirrors are the same as the late model 968 mirrors.....is this a fact? If so that will open up a few avenues for aquiring them. Before I get too far into looking for them , if somebody has any for sale I'd like to buy them. I figured I'd start here on the 928 forum.

Jeff, I believe the stalks are unique to the 928, where as the mirror housings are common across multiple models. You might try 928 int'l maybe the have some from a GTS..........

Ok I pulled it up and I got confused again.... Is it possible to buy a set of mirrors without having to buy every component and put them all together? Or do I have to buy every little part seperately? That looks like a ver pricey ordeal then haha

chech it out here

Hello Jeff,

As Gretch said, the mirrors are the same units for all Porsche except the bases are car specific (968, 911, 928). I upgraded to the aero mirrors myself, and I think they look sweet.

When I decided to upgrade, I looked for a used set for a couple of months. However pickings were very slim, and prices for a decent set were almost the same, or quite often more than a "new kit" from 928 INTL.

Go for the power mirrors, as apposed to the manual. They cost a little more, and the wiring will have you pulling your hair out for a day or so (not an issue with you ) but they work just like they should.

Don't forget, when upgrading anything on the car, you can also sell your old components here, or on ebay to recoup some of the cost. You may get $50+ for both your old mirrors.

Cheers,
Mike

I know this is a tall order water cooler and sorry for seeming like a meathead, But I'm having a hard time understanding what exactly will be needed for the change. Off of the top of your head do you have a good idea of the parts I'll need to order? All I see is a whole lot of parts and will any of mine be utilized?

Jeff,

I see that 928 INTL does not have the mirror kits on thier web site right now. Maybe they are out of stock? Give Jim a call to find out. They were around $400.

In the interm Devek has the kits here:

Jeff,

Talk to Marc, Jim or Tom at 928 Intl. They will know exactly what you need and will have the best chance of getting the parts used. The kits should be available through all of the big three new and you save time and $$ on shiping with 928 Spec. when you are on the east coast (heck they are only a few hours away from your car while it's in Roanoke). And Dave Roberts knows how to do this upgrade as well.

Sorry Jeff you beat me to the post

Jeff I also had a look at what it would cost to order just the components that I would need from the dealer. Thinking that I would re-use the mirror motors from my original mirrors (I think this is possible for the later cars?), but it was still WAY cheaper for a complete kit with new components.

I forget the actual prices, but from what I can remember:

Re-use electric motors - free
Bases - $50 ea
Base gaskets - $10 ea
Mirror housings - $100 ea
Mirror glass - $80 ea
Retaining springs and metal tube thingie - $50

Rough guess on individual components - $500+
Kit - $400

Unless someone gives you half the components for free, the kit is the only option.

Cheers,
Mike

BTW, here is where the Porsche PET program is excellent! Get yourself a copy of it on CD Jeff, you can then look to see all the parts, and part #'s needed for a job like this. Jim Morhouse here on the list can set you up, along with a bunch of other goodies.

Ask 928 International if they have a good used set for sale.

Jeff;

A set of aero mirrors (used 968) just sold on Ebay last week for $326.

Add another 50-75 for the bases.

Not a cheap proposition.
