Putting an S4 rear spoiler on an early car?
Hello all, I've got an 80 model and was wanting to put an S4 rear spoiler on it, is this ok in the 928 community or is it a big no-no? I love the look and well, I want it, I kinda dont like the no spoiler look the car has now.
TIA

The car in the foreground is an '80 - with a (very carefully installed) S4 spoiled. This is an 'oem update', not a 'rice job': If you like the look, go for it!
You now have one vote - I think you still need a few hundred more!
BTW, to complete the update, the 'S' spoiler is on the front.

I personally prefer the GTS painted wing over the black rubber S-4 wing same wing just blends better looks more modern than black rubber spoilers . The GTS / S-4 wing gives the early car a bit more "attitude" with little or no extra drag , may even reduce drag ... lift was and is not an issue for a 928 so the wing has little down force .

Who here has the "flip-up" S4 spoiler, has left it in the slightly rakish "mostly closed" position, and been scared witless by the **BANG** when the "little down force" slams it shut at 72 MPH:-)?

Hi Al,
Those adjustable MY 87 wings are quite scarce. They were not even available for the whole 87 year. Though I agree with Jim re "painted to match" wings, I think it would be cool to have a rare adjustable example. I also heard it makes cleaning the rear glass much easier

I see an early local car with the late model spoiler added about twice a week during my commute. I think it looks great. Not sure about running a back without the front though. I know it is a real big no-no on a 911. I like the painted look better but what do I know. I'm the only one on the Jacqumond thread that thinks his new wing is cool!

my old 79 race car has an 87 wing from the holbert car. it is flip up too. Its kind of an interesting install, in that the early hatches needed some cutting (anyone with a drill and hand grinder can do. I actually just did it with the drill and bent back some of the steel with a big screw driver. some auto body tape later , you can hardly tell)
anyway, i think i agree. painted S4 wings look good on pre -S4 cars. the black just doesnt seem to blend right.
I dont think you need to touch the front. the front early cars look very aggressive in my opinion. I raced my first SpeedGT race with the GTS wing in the rear. I had to make it look as close to the 87 model year and on to run in the series. it had 2 races and i think the rear wing looked pretty darn good!
