No.

What is being done over there is an oil flow modification to the lower cradle of the engine, and a modification to the oil pan and pickup that places the pickup lower into the sump. The latter has been developed by www.landsharks.de, while the former was a a race car engineering project done by "Turbo-Uli" and can also be implemented by the German Landsharks guys.

Another cool thing available in Germany is a high flow metal cat that, in combination with reprogramming of the chips, brings approximately 30 extra horsepower and a throatier sound. Both can be TUV approved easily for legalization AND vehicle tax recudtion, since the two items reduce emissons to a point where the car gets into a lower emissions class. The vehicle tax savings pay for the modifications within a year or two, so I hear. More power and better sound at government expense - now that's a concept!!!

Nicole,

Thanks for the info, but to clarify, my query was directed towards oil consumption, not loss of oil pressure.

But the problem is... there is not a single 928 that is younger than 9 years old. These cars were designed to run wide open from the factory, but the factory didn't actually think 20 years down the road. There was planned obsolescence from the beginning, even with these cars.
N!
Give me an example of this planned obsolescence.

The engines in these things, with just book maintenance, are extremely durable. You really have to do evil stuff like big, big sweepers at near redline to do damage. The only parts that seem to have proven not very durable in late model 928s are the LH brain and steering racks. The remainder of the parts seem to have reasonable lifespans. I change the oil, check the brakes, and other routine maintenance, do the timing belt and water pump as called for, and drive the daylights out of it. I just finished a 1600 mile trip in my 125K mile 89, several hundred miles of which were at 120-155 MPH, burned no measurable oil, and parked the car when I got home and went to sleep with no concern about any planned obsolescence I might encounter the next day. Next morning I drove it to work as usual. In a few months I'll do an oil change. Maybe next year I'll change the spark plugs. In the next couple of years I might do the plug wires. For no particular reason other than you should do it every 50K miles or so, I changed the distributor caps and rotors. Oh yeah, I did some of the radiator hoses last year. My AC stopped working. Turns out one of the fittings came lose. Snugged it up, charged the system. Should be good for another 10 years or so.

A rear wheel bearing went out at 100K miles. Is that what you mean?

Then I'm sorry, I don't have an answer for you. Never heard or seen anything about your proposed solution.

"and if you don't drive the vehicle in excess of your own skill and abilities, then how can it be classified as abuse?"

sounds like the most sensible metric mentioned so far.

Note: Most of us, including me, reach the limit of our driving ability well before we have reached the capabilities of the 928.
