Thumbs up Spare tire compressor modification

I know I am going to get a lot of flak from purists but I modified my spare tire compressor. Let me 'splain. I was coming from from Sharks in Columbus and found someone's 5/8 bolt they left for me in the middle of US 74 in Illinois. Got to the side of the road in less than a min but the tire was destroyed (two handfuls of powdered rubber were inside when I took of the tire). I had to get the spare out, inflated and mounted. Now at this time, I didn't look at my compressor because I had put one of the emergency kits (see it on amazon here, it's awesome:
Amazon Amazon
) no affiliation in the trunk just in case something like this happened and I needed to change the wheel.

I got all done and drove 25 miles or so with the collapsable spare to a tire shop and got two rear tires put on and was back on my way. (yes, odds were in my favor to have two 275/30-19 tires in stock but sometimes you are lucky.

So I got home and decided to check the factory compressor. Lo and behold I forgot I removed the cigar lighter port from my car and eliminated it completely. Phone charges from the radio USB input.

I got an SAE connector and cut the end off the compressor and made a nice soldered and heat shrinked connection to the pump so I can plug it in the SAE connector I have under the hood at the jump post. Simple and clean.

You have 19" wheels on your 928 or on the Cayenne?

I've done that same mod since I have USB chargers and voltage gauge where my lighter socket used to be.

I presume you checked it for length and it's going to reach the LR tire with the valve stem at 3 o'clock?

I have Battery Tender quick connects in the front grill to the jump post and in the rear hatch to the battery so in my case, non-issue at all with length to the tires.

I don't carry a spare in my 928s. The spare tire area has a plug kit, compressor, tools and spare parts in it. A major tire failure results in a call to AAA for a rollback truck.
