Here's a table of all 15 Canadian market '89 GTs, last 6 of the VIN, Production #, Production date, Invoice date, Sold date.
What is really interesting, at least for me, is the difference between production date and invoice date. It's much closer for European cars and it may suggest that invoice date is the date at which the car reach the Porsche dealership (or importer?), and is invoiced to him.
What do you think of this?
I think that that's an interesting (and testable) hypothesis. Let me see what data set I can come up with, say US market GTSs vs. German market GTSs vs. Japanese market GTSs (as a sort of control - physically distant but non-US)?
Would we be able to find out the delivery dealer from the database? Looking at the batches of invoice dates, seems groups got delivered around same time, guessing Toronto, Vancouver, and likely Montreal?

I think that the car was invoiced to the importer, not the actual dealer.
Bur to prove this, we need to know the actual delivery dealer of cars with the same invoice date.

I haven't been through the stack of records that came with it in ages, but will take a look. I do know it was from Toronto, but not sure if there was more than one dealer there back then.
