Default 928 toy "Mutt"

Check this out, a diecast '86 S4 (Another Holbert car perhaps?) in Purple, with CS Rims, and what's with the droopy wing?

i didn't know they made S4's in 86. I thought 87 was the first year.

sax,

Some of the earlier S4's had a build date in '86. Mark Kibort's S4 did the Bonneville blast in '86. The model year is techinically an '87, but there was many an S4 in various states of completion when '87 rolled around.

But basically, I think it's fair to state that the Taiwanese toy maker just plain got it wrong. Those rims didn't show up until 1989.

i knew that there was 87's rolling around in 86, just like how most of the time the next year of car usually rolls out into lots around september-november. But was the an actual model year 1986 S4?

True, my '87 S4 was sold on 10-20-1986 and has the flip up rear spoiler like Adam's avitar.

Perhaps the model was made in 1986 for the coming '87 model release ....

Your early S4 probably also has the crank oil sprayer block, and single roller (as opposed to twin roller) idler under the crank. Also, an extra fuel return line that was later deleted. Anyone know of any other early S4 oddities?

Which fuel line is that?....didn't know of that....

Also switched at the end of 87 model year..were the three point seatbelts. 87's have just the lap belt and the rear seat fold down release **** is on the outboard side of the rear seats. Switched to inboard 88 and up....likely to avoid interference with the new three point belts.

Later,
Tom

Very early '87's have the pre-S4 oil pan with the oil return hole shut-off with a cover. Also, I believe very early '87's have an extra bracket alongside the airbox on the right side, to hold an air test port or something with a blue cap. And very early '87 autos start in first gear.

You know, the one that was deleted.

Actually, I thought there was an extra return line that came off either one of the fuel dampeners or from the pressure regulator. It's the short line you've got lying around the shop Tom. Is it something different? I've never actually seen one installed on a car.

Ooooohhh...that one......

Actually..it was a change in design. The 87 S4 fuel pressure regulator has a fitting on the bottom that is comprised of rubber hose over a metal tube and a stainless steel clamp. That changed in 88...to a standard flanged fitting with a nut on the hose mating to threads on the regulator.

Later,
Tom

I have a possible source for those, and have been thinking of getting some for my store. Would you guys be interested? Don't know the price, yet.

I think the model itself is pretty cool, the rear wing needs the Kibort treatment just to bring it level.

The sample I have has the wing positioned correctly.
