Default Questions-Wheel and Tire Combos for 86.5

Will 245x45x16s fit on the front with 8" flats? What I'm thinking is to use the same size all around for AutoX.

I also have a set of the Design 90 look alikes for the S4 which I don't believe are forged. Looks like either 6-7x16 & 8x16 with no numbers on the back--Should I consider using them for AutoX?

I'm looking at a pair of 9" CSs for the rear where I would consider 275x40x16 a possibility. Has anyone used that size? Any ideas what I might be expected to pay for them? The seller describes them as having very minor curb rash (both) and a scrape on one of them... He turned down $250???

I'd really like to hear from those of you who actually use these sizes and what AutoX tires to use too because I have a set of Hoosiers 225x50x16 & 245x45x16 already --What should I mount them on???

Finally, I have a set of 951 phone dials that I thought would fit. They don't! Any interest? One has a weight glued to the outside rim otherwise they are remarkably pristine. Any way to get the weights off without damaging the finish?

Chuck,
In answer to your first question, 245x45x16 on 8" flat should fit. I drove with my 245x45x16 9" CS wheels on the front for awhile once. I don't know if you will find a 275x40x16 tire. Hoosier has 275x45x16 and Kumho has 265x45x16. They could fit a 9" CS wheel but may not fit the wheel wells. I stand to be corrected by anyone with experience here.

ive done almost all combinations on the track. i started out with the max size on a 7.5 " front 17" rim of 245x45, so yes, it will certainly fit on an 8" rims. (actually, thats a stock size for BMW on a 17x8" rim. as they can go 245x40 too )

on a 9" rear rim, i did a 275x 17" , as it is an easy fit on a 9.5" rim.

Default Thanks Glenn and Mark I plan to...

OK, since the guy with the 9"CSs has not called me back, I'm planning to get Hoosier 245x45x16s all the way around on the 8" flats for next year. Since I aleady have a set of Hoosiers 225x50x16 & 245x45x16 off the rims, I'll use the Design 90's for the rest of this year unless anyone thinks thats a problem --I have a set of S4 flats if the need arises.

Thanks again.

BTW where do they put these threads? I can't find it on the regular forum! Did I do something wrong?????

Default Using 8" flats

I used as track wheels 8 flats with Hoosier 245x45x16s all the way around for three years no problem. Did have to roll the rear wheel fender lips just a touch with the 23mm? factory spacers installed. Car is 23mm lower in back then factory setting. As you can see from the photo, the fronts just align with the fenders.

As a sidenote, since I was on a budget, using 245's all they way around allowed me to rotate tires and get good wear.

Only problems with flats is they do not seem to allow enough air to flow around the brakes and they are heavy. But, for those of us on a budget, they are great

Eight-inchers all around sounds interesting.

Why'd ya leave the spacers in? Didja try it without?

I'd like to get have more tire rotation options. I'm using the S4 wheels for DE and have been taking them in to get the tires "flipped" after each weekend or two.
