Default High Idle ... What is this for?

Just finished a top end refresh and getting this running again. Have a high idle, so looking for leaks. Came across this (circled in red). What is this supposed to be connected to?

Nothing (others will chime in). In any case Gazfish shows a good way to add relevant details of your 928 to your sig.

Probably provided filtered air to the air pump. If air pump deleted, cap it

That port connects to the charcoal canister system on early cars. What year is your 928?
The port should be connected or capped, for sure, but it should not cause a high idle.

NOTE its helpful when asking for assistance to provide as much info as possible,
about the year and model your working on plus the transmission type.
and what was the last thing you fixed.

this looks like an 85/86 32V machine, not sure if its a Euro version 32V

NOTE Their is a port for the exhaust air from the air injection system,
(that would be sent to the cats for startup to get the cats up to temp.and complete the burning of the exhaust)

NOTE the outlet for that hose would plug into the top half of the air cleaner housing near where this port is located.

This lower air cleaner housing you have pictured could be from and an earlier car, or maybe you have a Euro version.

NOTE if this is a USA 32V you should plug this port as its not used on your car and will let dirty air into the intake

Thanks everyone, sorry for the lack of detail, I will put in my sig going forward. This is a USA 1986 928s ...

Mrmerlin - has air injection setup as you mentioned, hose connected to the top half of the air cleaner. Sounds like I should cap this port.

Thoughts on the high idle? If I turn the idle screw clockwise ... I hit the stop and idle is still at 1100.

i had the same issue on my '86 S3, after doing a top end refresh, it turned out to be a bad out of the box ICV
also, my car has an air pump, and the blue hose from the air pump goes to a vacuum valve next to the rad overflow tank, then diverts either to the cat, or a hose to the air cleaner box

You may want to verify, but on both my 85 and 86.5 this fitting wasn't actually drilled all the way through the airbox, so despite not having a hose or cap, it isn't actually an air leak into the box.

Looneybin,

Same here, that valve is very tight fit on mine as well, I think that's due to needing to replace the engine mounts, but all of that seems to be setup correctly.

I put a new ICV in as well ... is there a test that you can run to see if that's the issue?

Thanks!

My 86 USA car has that, but it does not communicate with the airbox, just like 76FJ55's. Even if it is open, it isn't letting unmeasured air / free air into the system, it would just be letting un Filtered air into the system. So it won't change your idle.

There are some write-ups in this forum, but they are all very complicated for my simple knowledge of electrical systems
you have to test it at the relay panel, or at the EZK itself

I think i saw something where you can put a 9V to the connector and it will open or close (sim to an injector) but i'm not positive, and i wouldn't want you to put too much voltage to it and fry it
it may have been a 1.5V AA battery
