Default 89 and 90 simple keyless remote locking installation

Exceeding simple plug-in installation for lock/unlock only install, for 89 and 90 only.

Requires one male and one female three position Molex connector and two 1/4" ring terminals.

Yellow wires to ground. Open|white/black to brown/green. Close|white to brown/red. (Note, O/C plug markings are on the flat side of the Molex.)

I removed all the other wires from the plug for simplicity. (Push down on the exposed retaining clip and pull out terminal.)

Plug at passenger door to place the passthrough. Pre-89 this is the alarm connection. 91-up do not have this plug.

Red to CE panel, black to ground.

I just could not wrap my head around what I thought would be a simple installation, until I came upon this post, amongst the pages and pages of keyless remote threads, most focusing on the useless-to-me hatch output.

There are many cheap boxes to buy but they pretty much all have the same wiring. I used this box from Amazon - B088D7R8LG, because I wanted two buttons only. The metal fob has a nice weight to it. (Holding the unlock button for 1.5 seconds triggers the hatch output.)

Doh! Those are not common Molex connectors.

I got mine off of some old wire harnesses. Used at both doors and by the freeze switch under the hood at least.

I found the part numbers in the 944 PET, which lists most every connector.

F - 171971998B
M - 171971999B

The female seems to be available, but the male may be NLA.

These were used on VW as well. EG. Golf. Might be able to find in a junkyard.

Cool! It looks like that was my post that you referenced, so I'm glad that it was of use to someone. I like the cleanliness of this installation, so if my unit ever gives up the ghost I will look into something similar. Thanks for sharing!

Added the turn signal lock verification wiring. Not being sure if it locked from a distance turned out to be quite annoying.

The box wiring came with two large diodes for left and right turn signals. Continuing my low impact installation, I used flat terminals, slightly bent at the hole, jammed into the CE panel 'P' plug at P11 and P12 and secured with a zip tie. (Black/green and black/white wires.)
