Antenna Switch Interrupt Install
In fact my antenna is, like so many others, all chewed up inside and doesn't function super well. I am going to replace it, but I didn't want to until I refreshed my stereo. The original head unit always raised the antenna, even when not on the tuner setting. I had hoped my newer head unit (bluetooth capable) would be smarter in this regard. Alas, it is not, so I went ahead and ran my antenna lead through a small right-angle switch I mounted in the glove box. It's nice and tidy. So now my antenna signal lead only says "go up" when I want it to
Which is almost never. But sometimes. Now I can replace the antenna and not burn it out again unnecessarily by reducing the number of activations 50x!I'll share some pics here, and a link to the switch I used if anyone wants to follow along at home. Was very easy to add, as long as I was re-doing my stereo harness anyway. The Switch: - though any 'ol small switch will do - this one fit absolutely perfectly for the task. I have an extra!
Also, death to quick-connectors in automotive wiring! Long live painstaking soldering and shrink wrapping!
Pics here. Maybe this helps someone next time you re-do your head unit!
switch!
halfway through harness rework - I just ran a loop through to the glove box when I did the harness - then cut on the other end to wire in the switch once I was done.
