Default 928 Book Special Offer - Update!

We recently had a discussion about the new Porsche 928 technical documentation book by former Porsche Engineer Jörg Austen. The book covers all model years with technical data and changes that were made.

Despite being written in German, it has a lot of information that is understandable internationally: 192 pages with 66 b/w and 29 color pictures, tables of technical data, and 37 technical drawings, many of which were not published before or anywhere else.

I spoke to the publishing company, and the bad news is they are NOT planning to release an English version of the book. It is ony available in German.

However, I am now able to make a special offer to interested Rennlist members:

Get the book, packed and shipped to your door within the US and Canada for US$48.00.

This offer is valid until June 27, 2004 (coming Sunday). Allow 2-3 weeks for delivery (they are on their way from Germany). California Residents are subject to sales tax (sorry, Arnie needs the extra dough)

I can accept payment with PayPal, money order, cashiers check, personal check (item shipped after check has cleared), or cash at your own risk.

Email me at hookedoncars@mossinger.com , if you are interested!. Make sure you put "Rennlist 928 Book Offer" in the Subject line!

Nicole,

Hot damn...I'll take it...note that I've seen this very book sell on eBay for $60 + shipping. I'll contact you via email to arrange payment...or can I just send you the money on PayPal?

I was hoping that you'd take me up on my earlier request to translate this fine text into English over the course of the next year and then allow Jim Moorehouse to "publish" the translation on CD-ROM for the group?

C'Mon Nicole...whattaya say?

Thanks so much for arranging the deal on this book...can't wait to see it!
No doubt it will be the heir to the super collectible "Project 928" text.

Best,
Tim

Why not start a petition to get it published in English?

Thank you for all your emails and responses! Each of you who wrote me should have received an email response in the meantime.

I have offered to the publisher to translate it for them, but not received any interest - the publisher is not very large, and really focused on Germany.

The fact that I will be ordering a nice amount tonight for the US market might be another hint for them about the size of the US market for this book. I would not hold my breath that the translation ever happens, though. Even if - it takes a LONG time to translate and the produce the book in a different language.

Either way, I believe you will find the German version to be very interesting, because of the pictures, drawings and tables that let you compare the various model years. The specifications include US versions.

And you might learn a German phrase or two...

I already know how to swear in several different languages... one of them in German. It goes along with working on my car.

I used to own a Fiat... hence the knowledge of certain phrases in Italian.

Rob:

Can you also pronounce those swearwords in a way that the car understands?

Nicole. Please, take a few evenings, a glass of wine, a comfy chair and read the book to us in English while the tape recorder is picking up every sweet sound of your lovely voice. Then sell us the book and tape for a handsome profit.

Where do I sign . . .

Nicole,

I am interested, but am awaiting your answer to the glass of wine, comfy chair, tape recorder suggestion.

My car speaks german, but I don't!

Nicole,

I figure that since she makes an effort to please and yet still frustrate me at every turn... the least I can do is learn to properly speak to her.

Update:

The publishing company's rep emailed me that my order did not get in before their cutoff date for moving their warehouse. So they won't ship before July 1. This means the books will arrive here in the Middle of July, not in two weeks from now, as I had expected. I will send them out immediately after they arrive. My best estimate is now that you'll have the book in about four weeks.

I'm very sorry for the delay - I had not been aware of this earlier.
