People put the wierdest things on dash boards
Hi there. Today I saw a Honda CRX with hotwheels ,possibly glued -from west to east right across the dash. Is this some kind of boroque vehicular renaisance?. Years ago ,I saw a grungy camero with trophies in the back window for all to see..... OK.... What strange things have you seen in other cars ?And if your honest what -sentimental things do you carry in your's? Just curious .Mike

The funniest was a Geo Metro with all kind of trophies glued on its hood. They were all sharp objects, as if he was waiting to hit a deer or pedestrian, penetrate, kill and hold the object until he would get home to prepare it for dinner...

wierd...
my Brian used to have a '79 Volvo 240 dubbed "Yoda Tank". Long story. Anyways, there was a one or two inch tall plastic Yoda figure glued to the dash for good luck.

Dash decoration is only the first stage/symptom of an entire car subculture that we (my friends or anyone who rides with me) simply call "art car" because that's what you call out when first spotting one while driving. Oregon has a tradition of attracting "eccentric" people. Couple that with low tag fees(historically) and no inspections outside of Portland, you see all kinds of trash heaped on cars as the result of someone's "vision". It may only be an elaborately hand painted microbus or it could be a '64 Dodge Dart covered with literally hundreds of hubcaps in an apparent "armadillo-izing" treatment. Saw that one myself and marvelled at the amount of work that went into it.
Dashboards... remember the first Chevrolet Lumina minivans that had the ultra-long dash and windshield? Like more than two feet of flat space up there. Horrid things. There is one of those around here that has probably 4 or 5 HUNDRED of those stupid beanbag doll things ON THE DASH. They're stuffed up there more than halfway up the windshield and how the woman who drives it can see is utterly beyond me, but naturally she drives while holding her cat, so where exactly she's going may not be a priority for her...

Well, in Virginia Beach I followed a couple of surfer dudes in a Dodge Dart that the owner had chopped off the top, completely covered the exterior and interior with astroturf and mounted a hula dancer on the dash. I liked it.

In a brief moment of insanity, I had envisioned halving
a hula dancer dash ornament(one with swaying waist) and
appending the top half of a plastic shark onto it.
Voila. "Hula Shark"
Luckily the moment of insanity passed.
Ernest (NYC)
Sony XM radio unit on dash pod. Mini XM antenna on dash.
I try and keep the sunshield up at Porsche events and hope
no one notices the dash installations.

My neighbor of many moons ago, had a plywood platform built on the passenger seat covered with carpet at the level of the dash, on which his small dog rode. Naturally his wife rode in the back seat!

I had some neighbors in Germany who were not able to have children. So at some point they decided to get a dog to have some company. When they sat at the dinner table with the rolling shutters up, you could see husband, wife, and dog sitting on the chairs around the table. It was hillareous!!!
They did not go as far as letting the dog ride in the front, though.
Besides that it is a little weird for your neighbor's wife put up with this, it is pretty dangerous in case of an accident. Think about getting hit by another car. Based on the impact, your car might stop or change direction - the dog will keep going in the direction the car went before. If you are now in his way, you get hit by a heavy creature travelling at the speed of what your car was travelling before it was hit. If the dog started out at the height of the dash, you could be beheaded by your own dog. Pretty scary, huh?
Oh well, you can always sue the other driver, can't you?

There's a local artist here who builds cars completely covered in objects. Usually its a mosaic made out of old green computer boards, stained glass, or even pennies on old 60's chevy or ford vans or station wagons, and some get driven on the street!

Up here, in the Seattle area, some fellow
has the entire exterior covered with
cameras - all kinds. Lots inside, too.
Some are video and work. Dash-mounted,
in the rear, fore and aft. It's a hoot.

Hi Nicole. Talking about dogs. Behind our house is a greenbelt. On the second floor you can see people passing by jogging, biking walking their dogs and god knows what. We were having our Sunday supper when we noticed a woman walking with 2 leashes. One was for her dog and the other was for her about 1.5year old daughter. She waited patiently 3 or 4 times while the dog was sniffing about. Continuing on, they walked a little more when the little girl stopped. Her mother yanked on HER leash and forced her to continue on. I'll never forget that! Sad, somewhere along the line we've lost it . Mike
