Default Blaupunkt display: bulb replacement

I've got two Blauplunkt radios, and neither one has a display that is visible in the daytime. Does anyone know what's involved in replacing the bulb?

Replacement of most any part inside a radio is not for the faint-of-heart.

Don't get me wrong, it's hardly impossible but it does require some basic electronic tools and some time. It's not (generally) a matter of screwing in a new bulb. It's like working on the gauge cluster, only smaller, with a whole lot more parts, less room, and most everything is soldered in place.

But if you don't care too much about the unit - take it apart. There's no better way to figure stuff out - to my mind anyway.

If you need it fixed www.midwestelectronics.com they are probably the best bet. US stocking distributor of Blaupunkt stuff and they are the 400 lb. gorilla of the 'BluePoint' world in this country - there's only 4 other authorized distributors anyway.

HTH,

Greg

Hi.

Come on Gbyron....tell him to pull it apart and whether or not it gets fixed, if it is one of those old blaupoops, do the radio throw with it! Also note that any mid 1980's of later -mid 1990's blaupoop will probably be packed with cheap sony guts. There newer units are better, however. Becker is pretty nice as well. Never could get the CD-2 serviced properly by blaupoop, however. Never will forget those junkers!

On another note, glad to hear that there are record setting sales in your business for this year. Makes you want to get a few more I imagine!!! Or is it time to take the old mare to the auction block and sell it to some local guy running a number of others?

Drop me a line when you get a chance and sorry for the hi-jack. I bet the FBI keyed on that last line and already have all my info pulled and a HRT team scrambled.

Speak with you later! BTW, did I mention I hate blaupoop?

Bye!

Never would have guessed. I always thought you loved the stuff...

The other business will go soon, but not for a while yet. Fattening up for the slaughter and all that.

BTW - I got this leaky GTS steering rack I bought from some chucklehead. Maybe 60K miles out of it and it starts bleeding like a stuck pig. Who's rebuilding ZF racks here in my neck-o-the woods?

I'm sure they're watching me already. Between driving through OKC in a big yellow Ryder truck the exact time McVeigh did his nastiness, the former spooks I know, and some of my "sister's" former politico boyfriends -the Carnivore system has a special check mark next to my name...

Greg,

It has been my experience that there are only two very good rebuilders for racks. My first choice is ZF. My second choice is Griffiths. I know that people offer rebuild kits, but they never seem to work well. 928
Internationals will work for a little less money, but I would only put them in a for sale car as the last one I got leaked badly right after the two year mark and that was with new pump, filter and lines replaced and only about 2000 miles. I wouldn't recommend it, but that is my opinion. Griffith's unit is nice, but the guy is a pain in the a$$. I called up to get an a.c. line and told him I wanted a factory replacment unit crimped on both ends and well I got it and it was made out of aluminium and really thin walled tubing. Fit just fine, but I hate thin walled aluminium because it is weak. He tried to tell me it was better for some corrosion reason. I told him next time I'll buy a steel line as they are less likely to get damaged and leak. I have yet to see a steel line even that wasn't plated rust through. I have also seen plenty of steel lines survive "belt strikes". If you can deal with him, he is cheaper, but different.

Glad to hear all is well.

Give Southern Electronics a call. They cleaned up by CR1 tuner (Alpine unit) and rebuilt the CD1 6 disc changer (also an Alpine unit). They are located in Richmond, Virginia.

Thanks for the info, but I'm guessing it'll cost bigger bucks than I want to sink into these two. If I have to pull them, wrap them, ship them, pay for them to be repaired, .... I may as well look for something new.

Probably true.

Sadly, very little is worth fixing anymore. It's gonna cost 50% of the cost of a new unit, so go for new.
