I forgot which "O" ring needs to be replaced, but you can reuse the ones from your existing 19lb-ers providing they're still in good shape.

I used the o rings that I had on theoriginal injectors. they were in fine condition.

BTW FWIW, Mount the new injectors to the fuel rails and clip the locks in place first. Then line up the injectors to the intake ports and tamp them in place. Doing it any other way may result in a leak, as it can be hard to seat the injector in the rail and get the clip locked in place with the injectors already in the intake ports. In part this is because the injectors can seat deep enugh into the intake manifold such that they do not seat properly into the fuel rail.

Tony,
You can go to a local parts store and buy a set of injector seals for your car. They will give you a little box that has the top and bottom seals and pintle cap. The top and bottom seals are the same. Since you will not need the bottom seal you only need 4 sets of seals. 1 set is $2.99 so for $12 you'll have a whole new set ofo-rings. Or you could just re-use the old ones. The part # is 274081 made by Neihoff.

Be sure to follow these directions when installing them to the manifold, click here.

Be sure to use vaseline or grease on the upper seals when installing the fuel rail.

BTW the injectors shown in the pic are 19#. The 30# FMS injectors are red, the 42# are bright green.

For general info:
19#, 24#, 30# = less than $225 for a set of 8
36#, 42# = more than $400 for a set of 8

HTH,
Andy

For general info, I just got off the phone w/ Summitt. They do still sell the FMS 42# injectors and the price is $399.

Thanks for the info. I DID order the 30#, im not sure why they have that pic on the page then? Just a blanket visual description i suppose.

Since the very bottom of the injector doesnt slide into anything, fit of the orings and the stock manifold isnt important, im just going to keep the orings and cap that come with them on there... i think

. Andys manifold is a bit different. The injector is secured a little higher up and then again by the rail at the top.

Question: is the cap (pintle cap i think its called)at the bottom of the injector vital to its performance? Is it responsible for the spray pattern or is that done by the little orifice and needle them self??

If i could id rather remove the cap and the oring leaving just the lower metal shaft of the injector..if that makes sense? Woudl that work?

yup, 219.00 ..shipping handling...and since im in NV there's tax as well (they ship from Sparks, NV) 249 total

I just got my throttle cable done Andy. A different approach but it works. I now have to decide whether to have the bracket i made bolted or welded to the rear plenum.
Ill send a pic.

It may vary by injector. There are at least 2 styles. 1 style is the same as the stock injectors with 1 hole right in the middle and the needle kinda sticking out. It would be fine to run this style in my manifold without the pintle cap. The other style, same as FMS injectors, have 4 holes, no needle. I don't know if the pintle is necessary for correct spraying but my guess is that it is not. However they are so hard to remove from the FMS injectors that I just left them on for fear of damaging the inj while removing them. I guess you could cut them off, but then what if they are somehow necessary?

A Pacnw lister recently picked up a set of 19 lb Ford injectors that were a new design..design III I think...very thin lightweight and had four holes at the tip. No pintle cap..and very cheap. Apparently these are used in the Lightning F series trucks...

Search on ebay for Ford design III or something like that . I'll see if I can find a pic..they looked really cool...

Here's a link..

What will the difference be between a 19lb/hr injector compared to a30lb/hr?

Probably just a lot of black smoke for a stock 928.

You really only need larger injectors for a 928 if you are making significant modifications.

In particular here we are referring to use in supercharging.

The Bosch "style III" are theoretically a little better at atomization than the "style II" (the ones than came on your LH) or the "style I" hose babies that came on my L. Gotta be sure to get the right spray pattern though if you start getting into the type IIIs. (actually some are optimized for a 4V app, so it can work out well....)

The pintle cover, hat, or chimney (depending where you're at) is important as a shielding device. Helps with heat management and atomization - so sayeth Robert Bosch GmbH anyway. And RB is one of the few things in life I tend to believe in.

The actual pintle itself is the little thing at the output end of the injector that looks kinda like a .177 pellet. It's the part that actually moves up when the electromagnet activates and lets the fuel spray past it.

BTW Tony,

Hope you're putting a blower on that thing or running management. Otherwise you'll be rich. Filthy rich. Not in the flying a heavy for the gubment in the Gulf for $28K/month rich, but black clouds behind you rich.

Greg
