Default lutz auto circuit board

I bought a 1978 928 with a trashed instrument cluster foil and maybe I'll try the lutz auto circuit board replacement. Has anyone done this conversion?

Yes, I installed one of Bryan’s boards/kit in my ‘79. He was great to work with and stands behind his products. You may want to touch base with him since you have an early 928. The prongs that go in the back of the cluster may be a bit different than the later cars. I forget what exactly we did to make it work but it ended up being a very nice, bright cluster. Bryan may have already tweaked his design or offers a different setup for early cars. Again, he was excellent to work with.

Had them in my 81 Euro S and they were great.

Just refurbed a 944 S2 cluster with them over the weekend.

Much better solution than the original foil and makes the dash much nicer with the led lighting.

Original foil setup

Condition of gauge surround

Repainted Gauge Surround with textured satin black and Reassembled with trim rings

Lutz boards installed and wired

New odometer gear installed

Front lens polished and reattached. Done.

Not too hard. Mounting the boards is easy. The Speedo wires on mine were to short to make it into the pickup ports so I had to solder and extend them. You also have to do all the wiring on the back, but they provide good wire and it's just a matter of connecting like for like letters - cut to length and plug into the slots.

Make sure to verify if Lutz has fixed the alternator exciter resistor issue.

They must have as the alternator in my 81 Euro S that had Lutz boards charged just fine. Joel has that car now.

It's a 78-only issue.

I used it on an 82, he was great for support questions. I did have issues with the smaller two prong gauge connectors and had to order longer ones from and rescrub everything for it to work.
